  • California Here We Come decals

I believe SQ applied the "California Here We Come" decals on several aircraft to promote their flights to the US.

If you look at the photos linked below, there seems to be two words (?) written underneath the word "come." Perhaps it mentions a date?

Anyone have an idea what it is?

By the way, would anyone remember the seating for the DC-10 - was it 2-4-3, 3-4-2, or 2-5-2?

    2 words (?) written underneath "April 1979"

Besides the 747-200 & DC-10, SQ also painted its 727 in "California Here We Come" too.

In the old days, SQ2/1 was serving Singapore <=> Hong Kong <=> Guam <=> Honolulu <=> San Francisco.

Thanks for the great info! Love your avatar, btw. I think it is the only photo of that decal on the 744.

I flew on the inaugural SQ1. Guam was never in the routing, it was always SIN-HKG-HNL-SFO VV.

When all DC-10s were grounded by the FAA in 1979 because of the AA191 crash, SQ temporarily replaced the DC-10s flying on the SQ2/SQ1 route with 707s, which required a technical fuel stop westbound in Guam. The Guam stop was no longer required after the DC-10s resumed service on the route.

Thanks for that information and clarification, which was new to me.
