  • Magazines Onboard

I observed on 2 of my flights last month on SQ 16 & SQ 228 on J class, the cabin crew only offered newspapers but never came back with magazines.

I had to ask for it after take off, & they did not even put the magazines on the rack usually at the back of the business class cabin.

Both of my flights have 100% full load, is this a common sight?

I have always been offered magazines and newspapers, but have found that they have cut back, no computer or gadget magazines. It could be they ran out with it being 100% load or I had grab them first.

The selection was still the same on my FRA/JFK return this week but as always I have to specifically ask for a few titles I like.

Not sure why but Shape and Gourmet aren't offered although they are available on request.

Was told by stewardess that there's some issue with discussion on the mag supplying. No more Gadget mag.

Had a very odd flight once. Was on a 77W from HKG-SIN and the gentleman in 2C grabbed all the "female" and "her world" mags. So the LSS then comes across to me in 2A with what's left...... top gear, autocar and T3 or whatever it was -

still, better than nothing so i grabbed a copy of the finest Hammond, Clarkson, Stig et al - and me and mr 2C both had a rather pleasant flight thereafter.

Since we're talking about magazines, is there any 'set' route for the loading of Conde Nast Traveller on board?

They run out of my favourite magazine, Robb's Report during my recent flight. I was told it's temporary out of print.

First choice for magazines is for crew to take along to read i hotels during nightstops, expecially female mags and computer ones.

Strangely on a recent flight to SYD there was only one Guy magazine and the rest were all Woman mags in J. I was the first one onboard so I rushed to get one, only to find just one Guy mag

This only happened once for me, and only in SQ11 but the stewardess offered Metal Edge (when it was still around) and Guitar World magazines. I guess she assumed that a guy with long hair is usually into metal music, which I am.

Good read by the Stewardess then. I'm more surprised they carried such specialist interest magazines on board!

                          Left behind by another passenger?

I was shocked too when I was asked, but wasn't complaining. But then again, L.A. was/is a huge music scene, so that may have been a possibility, but still a little far fetched.

I doubt they are allowed to bring magazines out of aircraft, but lately choices are getting lesser, perhaps it is the pax who took the magazines out of aircraft, there isn't a rule saying mags are not allowed to be remove from aircraft correct? I only see the aircraft safety card in each seat pocket with this comment "DO NOT REMOVE FROM AIRCRAFT" .

Some magazines for example Wine & Dine have the SQ stamp imprinted on it for those of you who are not aware.

And I recently learnt that even for some newspapers onboard, below at the edge/corner there is a colour coding (which indicates from SQ) that you will not see it when you get from the newsstands outside.
