    SQ850/851 - Changes to schedule effective 28 March 2010

    10 March 2010

Due to the unavailability of slots at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, SQ850 and SQ851 - operating between Singapore and Guangzhou - will only operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 28 March 2010 onwards.

Services on Tuesdays and Thursdays will not be available for the duration of the Northern Summer 2010 schedule, ending 30 October 2010.

Affected customers will be re-accommodated on alternative flights where possible. Singapore Airlines will also be deploying larger capacity aircraft on this route once the new schedule comes into effect.

Customers may contact the travel agencies through which they may have made their booking.

For customers who made bookings through singaporeair.com, they may contact their local Singapore Airlines reservations and ticketing offices.

Singapore Airlines apologises to affected customers for any inconvenience caused.

"Due to the unavailability of slots at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport..." really n seriously? Think loads must not have been good altho the last few times I was on these flights seems to have a good 75% above loads - and the reduced frequency is back to during the last year's recessionary time. Never heard of Baiyun airport having no slots as even budget carriers like air asia even got their several additional flights to Baiyun.

How can Baiyun run out of slots? Are they having some sort expansion or construction? I wonder what's the larger aircraft SQ is deploying there.. I'm guessing the 773.
      Cabin Crew, takeoff stations...

Baiyun is operating as per normal and its SQ that is reducing its flights and it should not be bec of "unavailability of slots" as SQ 850/851 arrival and departure times at Baiyun are more or less off-peak times at Baiyun. And few other carriers in fact have increased flights into CAN - and for the CAN-SIN sector even China Southern has reinstated its 2nd daily flight to SIN since couple of months back. So am surprised why SQ puts the blame on Baiyun? - when its reducing its capacity to CAN as even at one time SQ was operating 10 flights weekly instead of its daily flights. SQ currently operates the 772 to CAN and is changing it to the A330 supposedly in the next few months.

From 25th July, this sector will be changed from 772 to 773.

And it is the regional 773, with F class.

However, F class will be blocked, meaning there will be no ticket sales for F.

          Only J & Y class available.
