Singapore Airlines Air Marshals

Just wanna start a thread on this topic. Pretty interesting stuff. From what i know, these air marshals have a real good life onboard. They fly First Class or Suites as its the nearest to the cockpit. They go hopping around the world and get paid to do so. According to some of my cabin crew friends, they are usually 'Ah-Bengs' just sipping champagne and relaxing. Although if there IS a hijacking onboard, their jobs just get a WHOLE LOT tougher
Anyone else have interesting info on these privileged few?

One is quick to point out the perk but overlook the tough training and the mental pressure that is associated with the job. Ever thought why your chicken rice uncle drives a Merc and wears a rolex? Did he ever tell you he'd need to wake up at 3, go to pick his produce and go to his stall to prepare hsi food?

Also worth mentioning that, if, somehow, the baddies who got through all security, the marshals would be their first target to take out. I wouldn't consider that exactly a perk.

Hmm if this is the case they are definitely not on every flight - I've been in a couple of F cabins recently where I was the only one on board. Perhaps cost-cutting by SQ relegated them to Business

erm, i don't think getting drunk on champagne in flight is a perk. what good would a drunk air marshal be?

Are they armed? They cant be on all routes as the cost would be huge.
Maybe that's why we cant get economy saver upgrades any more as there is a bloke with a gun taking the seat!

Well yeah..They're not on all routes.I would say maybe the SIN-US routes or maybe the Aussie routes and a couple of European destinations. Regional flights are definitely out...

I'm surprised that they are allowed to sip on champagne.

I'd expect them to be 100% sober. Not very professional to drink on duty.

doubt these air marshals onboard SQ can drink hard liquour or even sip champagne and they do Not sit in 1st class or suites - however they are given usually biz class seats usually at the front end bulk seats. These few air marshals are selected from the police specialised squad and with para-military training. They are definitely not the ah beng type.

Does SQ utilise AM's on all their flights or just certain sectors? I know OS do on all their long-haul sectors but never really heard the same for SQ...

First of all, I don't think they are allocated seats in the First Class area. The last time i checked(6 years ago), they were usually allocated seats in the Y class. They are also armed with rubber pellet guns and are usually from Seccom or STAR team of the SPF. And they do fly regional routes.

Air Marshals certainly don't touch a drop of alcohol while on duty

I personally think the whole program is a waste of time and money. Marshals fly on such a small percentage of flights, the odds of the marshals being on the flight that has a situation are very slim

Since their first response in a situation is to do nothing, the passengers and crew are more likely to end up handling the problem anyway which is what would happen on a flight without marshals anyway
