The A380 was used on SQ308/SQ319 to cope with the full load due to the aftermath of the Europe ash situation.

I am on SQ237 tonight, I hope it will be a 77W (past 2 days departed on a 77W) though I have not been on the 77A before.

Looking at the SIA cargo website, it shows SQ228 and SQ237 as 73R ?

        What is the 73R ?

          I am curious.

From my booking, the 77A flies between SIN and MEL on the following schedule:

          SIN-MEL SQ237: 2340 - 1005hrs and returns as
          MEL-SIN SQ228: 1700 - 2140hrs.

That's almost 7hrs layover in Melbourne after just a 7hr plus flight. Seems rather long to me. I am not a very travelled person but in most of my previous trips I noticed that the turn-around is usually quite short - ie 1 - 2 hrs.

Even the 77W and 388 sits on Melbourne tarmac for about 4hrs plus each day.

Anyone has any idea why Melbourne is so different? Or is it?

The A380 is normally used on SQ227, and sits on the tarmac 10 or 11 hours every day before leaving as the late afternoon flight to SIN! The reason is that the flights it operates are the most heavily booked ones, as they connect to and from Europe. I believe due to lack of A380s right now, the A380 rotation to and from MEL can't be more than 24 hours so they are currently using it on the morning flight to SIN which connects to mostly asian destinations.

It's all about connections in Singapore really, the flights are timed in each direction to facilitate connections in SIN.

                  Thanks Nick

So SQ227 is already running the refurbished 777-300?

SQ237 is the one with the refurbished B777-300 - SQ227 is still an A380.

The new rotations (not quite that new anymore) are SQ227/238 (A380) and SQ237/228 (B777-300 refurb).

                      Sorry I did mean SQ228

From all my reading on here I thought it was still the old 777-300 non-refurb as the refurb process had stopped!

it's the one and only refurb'ed 773, 9V-SYF that sees nothing but melbourne and singapore every day. quite a boring life for this aircraft.

                            No. SYD sees 1x388/2x77W/1x772.

I am flying out with sq 228 in August 2010. I heard the reason they changed 228/238 around is that Singapore want to utilise the A380 for some of their Asian routes and dont want it sitting in Melb for that many hours. Also on Seat expert its got the seating for sq228 as the older style 777 300.
