  • 747 in First: 3 C/D or 4 C/D

For a couple in First on the 747 - which are the better seats: 3 C/D or 4 C/D?

3 C/D looks like a quiter choice while cramped and 4 C/D the spacious choice with lots of traffic and noise...

    Your recommendations?

    1B and 2A

I would prefer 3C/D, but I'm aware there are a LOT of Row 4-fans on SQTalk...

Row 3 is best for a couple. Row 4 is close to the galley and there is a little path behind the seats that folks may keep brushing against as they head to the washroom.

      Personally I am a 1B guy!!

I was sitting on some Row 4 allocation SIN_LAX in April. Then last weekend, the seat allocations on both my outward and return legs opened up and I moved all sectors to 1B. Looking forward to that.

I notice that the seat also has Bassinet. I guess is an F Pax wants the Bassinet facility I get moved.

I would not recommend row 4 if wanting a restful flight. I don't find galley activity all that bothersome but others might.

However, do avoid 4F in particular (so perhaps 4D by extension) - everytime the LSS had to make an announcement (eg when seatbelt signs come on), the PA was made from directly behind 4F. Which in and of itself would not bother me that greatly, but a light that shone on to the seat had to be turned on so she can read her notes, which I did find annoying.

I would completely disagree with this.

4F is the best seat on the aircraft imho. I don't understand how the LSS behind directly behind you to make an announcement (which she is) makes any difference when the announcement is going out across the entire aircraft on the PA system anyway. I have been in 4F many times, and never even considered any issue about the LSS making announcements. It's a reading light she uses, not an anti aircraft spotlight.

I on the other hand, disagree with your assessment completely. We should ALL rush to 1B. 1B rules!

But since I'm a nice girl, I'll just leave 1B to you all and sit in 4F, which is of course the most awful seat in the house. Avoid at all costs! Especially if we're on the same flight in F

My New Year aspiration is to come to within 30% of MAN Flyer's flair for words. Tsk tsk, KeithMEL -- were your pupils too dilated or something? Besides, I think LSS's have the standard turbulence announcements committed to memory, so a light shouldn't be necessary, no?

Back to OP's question: I don't think there's a substantial difference between 3 C/D and 4 C/D as options for a couple. But then again, I've only observed, never actually travelled as part of a couple.

Well, when I sat in 4F the LSS did switch on her reading light everytime she made that standard announcement about turbulence. Maybe a new LSS?

LSS maybe memorize the word, but they always open the book to read it, how i know this? i asked few of them why they still read the "standard" announcement, they said better not mistake rather than "lazy".

OOT - Some of them have cute little notebooks btw... and yes I spent most of my time in galley talking to the them when i'm flying, sitting and watching IFE is boring.

oh.. and I'm a fan of row 3 for 744

They should, and some do, but many still use the little book because...

Absolutely!. I have asked numeous LSS's on flights after thay have made an announcment 'why do you need the book when even I know all the words myself ?', and they say what mhadian says ; I don't want to make even a little mistake.

In fact, the last time I asked this she said about not making a mistake and added 'if you know the words so well yourself maybe you can don a Kebaya next time and make the announcements for us'

You must be a light sleeper if a reading light four foot behind you distrubs you. Do you not use eye masks ?.

I will really miss the 744's and 4F. I know they are still flying but I can't see any chance of me flying one again. . Maybe something for me to work on...

Nope - find them uncomfortable. Unless extremely tired - there was one time on SQ227 when I was just so totally zonked out that I simply put on the eyemask after take off and slept all the way till it was time for descent.

I felt 3 C/D was more open and airy, perhaps because no double row of seats in front. Also feels a bit more secluded from galley and traffic behind the pair in row 4.
