Perhaps not what the poster had in mind when s/he asked the above but ... does being an UM prevent booze being served ?

If the UM is declared as such, one might assume that the UM wouldn't be served booze.

However, I flew as a minor (parents signed waiver) when I was 16 and was served more than my fair share of screwdrivers on my flights to/from SIN & CDG with SQ - the vodka to OJ ratio was definitely in favour of the vodka

UM or no UM, the service you get onboard is the same (but you do get a bit more attention from the crew). The only difference is on the ground - The ground staff will escort you from the check-in desk to the arrival hall.

Very tempted to reply this thread

Was flying from NRT to SIN during early May.

Was escorted to aircraft (poor Japanese man - waited for an hour STANDING on the waiting area until time to board in). All the people around me thought that I'm some 'vip' when several ground staffs came and told me that it's an hour to boarding.

            Unnecessary attention(:

Escorted all the way to F class in aircraft where the chief came and asked for my name and happily brought me to my seat.

Of course, seated on aisle w 2 empty seats

Special treatment includes *PPS-like treatment where air stewardess asked for my meal preference and got serve before others.

Chatted w her - about my long flight from YYZ (studying).

Did 'teased' her by asking for S'pore Sling but she gave me orange cooler instead

During meals, she gave me an extra ice-cream

Last 30mins - chief came and brought me to F class for landing never taken F class in my life despite flying SQ for many many times. After landing, had the air stewardess to take a pic of me sitting in F seat (she even said there's 2 different angles LOL.)

Ground staff came and escot me to main hall in Changi. Told her that my mum will be waiting for me at home (4am!) and boarded a taxi home. She even took down the IC and license plate of cab which got the driver pissed

Wanted to fly UM on my return to YYZ but e %+^# check-in agent was lazy.. Insisted my mum to sign waiver despite my mum wanting the UM service for me. (9hours transit in NRT.)

I went to Narita-San temple/Aeon Shopping mall by myself instead.(A 16YO boy w no knowledge of Jap!.)

Will be flying YYZ-SFO-SIN-MEL this July. Had my mum to sent in Request for UM form to SQ. It will be my last time in my entire life experiencing UM service since my 17th B'day is in July(:

In the midst of appealing for *G with 85% success. And is a happy SQ fanatic((:

Oh ya - on my return from SIN-NRT - I did spammed bloody Mary/S'pore Sling(: to my heart's content

Anyone got any idea on what I get request for in the aircraft? (as in food/snack that's not in the menu? )

And any idea what those FA normally write on their small little notebook? O.o

Hahaha sorry if it's long-winded, boring and full of grammatical mistakes.

When i first few SQ I was going to Australia from the UK. I was about 16. I didnt use the UM service but i was treated well onboard. I got served before other passengers and given an extra desert. Also came to check on me asking if i was ok etc.

Thats what got me hooked to SQ the extra mile they went on that flight.

                SQ FTW!

Taking Air Canada shortly after SQ flight is _______

Can really see the vast difference in terms of their services.

One treats you like God to a certain extent (even if you've no status) while the other treat you like an ordinary passenger - a feeling that's not warm but rather uninviting and wanna 'finish this job fast' type.

                That's my opinion though - a 16YO opinion (:

                  Hi everyone!

I'm 15 and I've flown as a UM many times on SQ, all of which have been on J. You can see my trip reports on airliners.net Most of my experiences have been good, but there have been a few bad ones.

Basically there are 2 things you can do:
                  1) Sign a UM waiver form, meaning the child would travel on his/her own with no assistance
                  OR
                  2) Request assistance. My parents went down with me to the SQ Centre at Ion Orchard in Singapore too sort it out.
I've done both. I usually go with option 1 for places that I'm farmiliar with, and option 2 for new places. The SQ staff were excellent. Although I didn't really need any help, the crew were always on hand, checking in on me and everything. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the ground staff. In LHR I had to wait for everyone to deplane before I could clear immigration. The ground staff "assisting" me were also assisting 4 wheelchair pax in Y, which was incredibly frustrating.

I've been in transit only once in Singapore, but my parents had signed the UM waiver form so I'm not sure about transit procedures. Also, on a side note, UM pax in R,F and J are not allowed in the SKL in Australia due to local laws.

                  Hope this helps!

                  Cheers,
                  Joel

                    Add my 2¢ here

I signed a UM waiver form once SIN-LHR for my then 15 year old daughter.

I wanted her to see what it was like flying alone, and finding her way home in London.

SQ bit was OK but the immigration in London would not her her into the country without someone picking her up outside.

Luckily my Dad had gone to meet her at LHR and he had to go in to sign her out

                      Unaccompanied Minor Policy

Hi everyone, my son and daughter are travelling to ADL from KUL. He is 17 and she is 9. Does anyone know if the unaccompanied waiver form will waive assistance for both of them or just him as it states it is only for passengers "between 12 and 18"? Will she still need to be assisted by ground staff regardless? Cheers!

                        Welcome to SQTalk, SQ35435.

I've merged your post with another thread about UM's, albeit one a few years old. Hopefully people with recent experience or more knowledge can chime in with advice.
