BEIJING, Jan 24 (Reuters) - A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 made a successful emergency landing at Beijing airport on Wednesday after an engine caught fire, Xinhua news agency said.
"Both the aircraft and the passengers are safe," Xinhua said, quoting Chinese civil aviation authorities. It did not give details.
The aircraft, bound for Singapore, took off from Beijing at 0045 GMT, a spokeswoman for the airline's Beijing office told Reuters by telephone. She said she did not know of any fire.
"We were informed that the aircraft had suffered some technical malfunction and had to return to the airport," the spokeswoman, surnamed Ma, said.
