What a great story! Sounds like he's on the 345 Fleet from the article.
Interesting. I once met an SQ IFS Chua Chong Jin and apparently he spent a lot of time doing social work including trips to volunteer work overseas, helping cancer patients and a whole host of helping the less fortunate ones. He does it through the Firefly network. SQ is lucky to have such a excellent and sensible staff.
Here's an opportunity for SQ to score some major brownie points...... you've got a 345 Captain making the world a better place, and potentially may be unable to continue doing so because he's out of a job........ hint hint SQ... c'mon do the right thing!
Agree...I think SQ should try to do something good here.
I was once on one of his A345 flights to CGK. I remember clearly his name because I was amazed at that time that SQ actually had an Indonesian captain piloting the A345.

Can we all set up a petition to get his contract renewed?
What a remarkable story about a real world hero. As I was watching it, I did hear him mention his contract wasn't renewed because of the global downturn. I also couldn't help notice that his accent speaking English sounds a tad more Singaporean than Indonesian which might point to a very long tenure in Singapore and with Singapore Airlines. Indonesia has produced many a great pilot, many of whom work in the global airline industry.
In many ways, this pilot represents the best of the best of SIA crew. He started his community project while being a global professional working for SQ--when people hear of him, they also hear about his employer.
Le jour de Saint Eugène, en traversant la Calle Mayor...
its a very world human interest story andeven CNN have newson such people who do good on their part in helping others esp in these trying times - and this is a tremendous story and a great PR and Publicityfor SQ if only SQ acts fast to reintstate him or retrain him on other aircraft type. As when international news media pick this up - his employer ie SQ will be featured too - and its kinda bad for SQ esp when this pilot is let go by SQ bec of the downturn and esp if SQ knew abt his setting up of his orphange and by now if SQ senior management n CEO still havent pick it up - then it can be bad PR for SQ.
If SQ does not take him back on board (pun intended? maybe...) I'm sure there'll be at least one middle eastern airline that would offer him a seat up front...
