  • Fuel surcharge increase to/from Hong Kong from 1 Aug 2009

According to the news, the Civil Aviation Department have agreed SQ, CX and RA to increase the fuel surcharge from short-hual HK$52 to HK$69, long-haul $239 to HK$318, all the ticket issued during 1 Aug to 30 Sep will use the new surcharge.

So if you plan to do HKG-SIN or HKG-SFO during that period, act fast~

Not the best news, but still a bargain compared to most destinations!

How is it that these lower YQ rates only apply to SQ, RA and CX etc?

I know that LX and TK have lower surcharges on the HKG route than any of their other routes, but why aren;t the likes of BA and LH required to enforce a lower YQ when SQ, RA and CX are required to approach the governing boddies with regards to their fuel surcharges?

Is the fuel surchage still a result of SQ's incompetence in buying fuel forward at $147/bbl or NOT buying forward at $33/bbl?

The increase is not only apply to these three airlines, but they are the first three that approved at 25 July. As at 27 July, there are 24 airlines approved to increase the YQ by HKCAD.
