  • Where to get the best deals ex SIN to the UK

Hi. Firstly I am big fan of SQ and knew to this board!
My family and I moved to Singapore about 6 months ago. I travel regularly for work and am a BA Gold card and BD Gold cardholder. I will contimue to maintain my BA status and most probably join the SQ programme but my main question is where to source the best deals for flights to the UK. Particularly interested in SIN-MAN as my father lives there. We have done the route twice, partly on BD miles in J and partly paid in J but it's expensive. Given the glut of deals ex UK I wondered if anyone know of similar deals ex SIN.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Welcome to SQtalk!

I am afraid you are going to be extremely disappointed. Ex-SIN the fares are high and any discounted fares you get will not accrue mileage.

Best place for SQ fares is actually their website. Using an agen, you will have to pay additional service charge on top of SQ's best price.

Welcome to the home of SQ! haha

In general, airlines always dump in someone else's backyard. But I'm afraid it doesn't work in Asia (The non-Singapore carriers seem to follow the high prices). Fares starting in Asia are far higher than the same routes starting in UK/US/Australia and that's especially true for SQ. And there are no internet sites to help because the Airlines still only allow fares from the starting point to be sold. I have NEVER found an airfare I would buy on Zuji.

To the extent that you have any flexibility for personal as opposed to business travel, you should take one way tickets to UK (I used AIrAsiaX last time) then start RT tickets from UK to SIN and keep rolling over at the UK end.

        Welcome to SQTalk, dhstyle.

As others and yourself have said, SQ are expensive ex-SIN. You could always start your journey somewhere close by to bring the cost down, if you can be bothered doing that. Ex-BKK/SGN/CGK have traditionally been cheaper than ex-SIN. I know they have an ex-SGN fare of USD3100+ for MAN.

Alternatively you have the Middle East Mob of QR, EY and EK but it would be a shame to do that with a direct flight to MAN, even if it is down to 3 x weekly at the moment.

          Welcome to SQTalk, dhstyle,

If you don't care about mileage accrual and don't mind a transit in Germany, Lufthansa seems to have a sprinkling (limited) of sales fares, some as low as 889SGD.

Air Asia X still cheaper, though. Sometimes TK is also not bad.

But the best fares consistently are ex-CGK/KUL/PEN/BKK/SGN and it seems most other SE Asia stops except SIN.

And unfortunately for MAN, the Savage25 effect can only continue...

flymeroundthemoon: I beg to differ about the Zuji one - there's at least one ticket I've been buying the last 6 weeks as it's consistent and very reasonably priced. Books into H, also.

Not CGK anymore. I think the discounts are focused on UK/Australia/US and SQ seem to be trying to recoup the difference in Asia. The SQ J Class fares to Europe out of CGK are at least 50% more than LH/EK/QR/KL/EH/TG etc. A cursory review of the SQ online booking site shows that fares ex CGK are without exception higher out of CGK than SIN.

Prey tell. I have often found very good hotel deals on Zuji but never airfares. EK/QR/EH/TH/TG/MH etc. are consistently lower on their own sites. Are there any other Asian sites that offer reasonable airfare deals? We dont have the likes of Travelbag etc in Asia, was my point.
