“The operation of the A380 to Hong Kong shows our confidence in the demand for both business and leisure travel between Singapore and the famed ‘Pearl of the Orient’. Hong Kong is a vibrant business hub and at the same time it has much to offer leisure travellers looking for great places to shop, eat and play,” said Mr. Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President, Marketing and the Regions.

Following the commencement of the A380 service, SQ862, from Singapore to Hong Kong, will be re-numbered SQ856. SQ856 will depart Singapore Changi Airport at 0945hrs and arrive in Hong Kong at 1330hrs. On the return leg, SQ861 will depart Hong Kong International Airport at 1600hrs and touch down in Singapore at 1940hrs.

Exclusively available on the A380 are the Singapore Airlines Suites. Each Suite customer enjoys a high level of privacy in his own cabin in the sky, behind sliding doors and adjustable roller blinds. The Suites come furnished with a luxurious and fully adjustable leather seat, upholstered by world-renowned Poltrona Frau, and a full-sized bed. For entertainment, customers can enjoy crystal-clear images on a sleek 23-inch high-resolution LCD monitor, mounted on the wall in each Suite.

Seems to be effective 09JUL from what I can see on Sabre.

      The new A380 daily is:
      SQ856 SIN-HKG 0945 1330
      SQ861 HKG-SIN 1600 1940

edit: ok Nick C beat me to it.

So only 2 dailies left for Savers/*A premium awards...

Yes Mr. Huang, we will all be falling over ourselves to pay 3x J fare to sit in one of those for 3 hours.

Start putting the A380 on more regional routes and the retreat from the Suites debacle draws nearer.

Too late.....no more savers for 77W or 388 (and no R redemption) -- I just checked for dates around X'mas.

Hmm, looks like I could make the inaugural flights!

I was all excited when I saw that "First or Suites" is "only" about 30% more than the price of J, only to find out that SQ doesn't seem to have released the price for R for the route on their website yet.

The question is, will we get a long run-up of questions and foreshadowing about someone's first Beyond First experience on the SIN-HKG route?

                          Evening all,

Singapore Airlines is introducing Airbus A380 service on the Singapore - Hong Kong SQ856*/861 service starting 09JUL09. The A380 flight replace current 777-300ER service

Co-inciding with the change, SQ860/863 will become 777-300ER service, replacing -300.

                          *SQ862 becomes SQ856 from 09JUL09

With the change, there will be 9.5% of capacity increase.

Adding SQ862/SQ861 into the rotation still only requires 7 available aircraft. By 9 July, SQ will have 9 WhaleJets. 1 extra is needed due to MX requirements. I think another new route will be announced soon.

damn.. if only the A380 could fill the role of one of the 772s on the route instead.
