For example, from the transcript of SQ's FY 2013/2014 analyst briefing, the SVP Finance reveals, "Further new technology aircraft will come to SIA in the form of the A350s in 2016."

Doubtful SQ will get cn #26 (the first for SQ) by December 2015. More likely early 2016. Then SQ have cn #s 30, 31, 37 and 41. Not all aircraft get delivered in cn # order, but it's a general guide.

Airbus claims the production rate will rise to 5 per month by 2016: we'll see. So far, they are not making the three per month projected for 2015..............

Sorry, but what does "cn #" stand for? Would cn #26 indicate that it would be the 26th A350 built by Airbus?

        • According to results announcements, one of the A333s will also be withdrawn this fiscal year (ending March). All the early ones (STA-STE) still seem to be operating normally.

IIRC the A330s were leased to be used until A350s start coming in. If that's still the intention, this March would be too early if plans are for 2016, as shown in the link posted by Jumbojet Lover.

Sorry for being cryptic: "cn" in Airbus-speak = construction number. It's the same as the "msn" which stands for "Manufacturer's Serial Number." They are issued in sequence, and generally indicate the order of construction and completion. There are sometimes exceptions -- a number will get skipped; something happens, like a carrier-requested change order; etc. But on the whole, the cn sequence will give a pretty good idea when a given frame will get delivered. In the case of the A350s, the first 46 numbers have been allocated in sequence - no skips. Then there are blank numbers, followed by more, scattered cns which have been allocated. Cn #26 should, as you say, be the 26th A350 built by Airbus.

For Boeing, it's "Ln" which = Line number. The Ln tells you the build sequence (again, there are exceptions, and the delivery sequence isn't always rigorously according to the number sequence, but it's close). It's a far better indicator of future delivery timing than, say, the order number.

I'm not so sure. Only the 77W can match for distance capability and similar size, but this means introducing F on routes like CPH and JNB. Maybe once they reduce the F cabin by half with the refit it would work, but the flip flopping with AMS I'll wait to be convinced on weaker routes.

With the A350, I got the impression that the first batch was to be for a shorter flight range similar to the 773 and that the longer range A350s would be a little further off?

                • After being out of service for so long, SRJ has flown to MLE. Quite a surprise really.

SVK is still on the ground, however.

                  • SRJ well and truly back in service, so not about to exit the fleet it would seem.

SVK on the other hand, did a SQ8877 test flight so it's fairly safe to predict it is in the process of exiting. The other 3 purple-cabined 200ERs are still in regular use, however.

                    • On 24/02/2015, another SQ 777 bites the dust. 9V-SQI has been wfu and has been ferried to VCV to await its fate.

                      • Scoots -OTA appears to of been withdrawn from service.

TZ spent quite a bit of $$$ refurbishing the interiors on these so does anyone know its fate? I thought these might of been transferred across to NokScoot, but that said ive heard these TZ B772 have a lot of high time major components so they might be desert bound.

                        • Any ideas on when SRK and SRL will be withdrawn from service ? I flew on SRL today and gosh, everything is really falling apart....

I believe the original plan was to transfer TZ's 777s to NokScoot but not anymore due to Thai authorities not allowing import of aircraft older than 14 years.

Add to that SRJ. After a long break, it's now back in the skies.

It's bizarre to have these three old dinosaurs still flying about as SQI and STJ leave the fleet.

Furthermore, they are much older than the A330s, the first of which are in the process of being retired.

All three were delivered in 2002, which makes them older than the average age of the fleet. In fact, the average age of the 777 fleet is older than for SQ as a whole.*
