  • Take a look at the latest photo of 9V-SWY:

    https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/10721324

It's almost 8 years old but it looks to have its engine(s) removed. Wonder if it's going through some sort of heavy maintenance or something. It's another plane that's relatively young and can return to service at some point (unless it's leased). If I remember correctly, it did some cargo flights like to Kathmandu for example, so wonder if it's similarly a preighter plane like 9V-SWM and 9V-SWN and can return back as a passenger plane till the 779's come in (2025 or 2026).

    • Does anyone know about the current status of 9V-SWF? She is apparently one of the retirees. Is she still in SIN? Is she in all white?

I think it’s been a little over a year since SWA left with all titles removed to VCV.

What about SWD & SWE as well? Those are also getting retired too.

        • Went to runway 20R for take off the other day (quite unusual!) and taxied past a whole row of parked SQ aircraft.
saw 9V-SWN without its engines parked next to SWE.

SWN due to be returned to service no?

(and that VIM airlines…is it ex SRB? Plus SKH all dumped there)

9V-SKH was scrapped almost a year ago. That is 9V-SKI near RWY20R.

VIM airlines 777 in scrapworthy condition was parked at D42 when I was at T1 this morning. A A380 in scrapworthy condition was parked at E11 or E12.

SWN was one of those preighter aircraft, like its sister SWM. Don't forget we have SWY, too, which pictures did indicate the same thing as SWN, no engines. I expect that it should return to service at some point. Question really depends based on what routes as SQ has really remained flat not really adding much more routes.

Because demand is really picking up, I expect at least 2-3 77W should return to service, if we are not counting the ones leaving the fleet (SWA, SWD, SWE, SWF).

                • Well, their european flights are as good as 100% filled almost every day.
Not sure what their objective is, but for e.g. Zurich could do with the return of the A380.
Maybe they don't have sufficient A380s at the moment until SKP/Q finish their refits...but then a temporary additional 77W flight would help.

I remember back in the mid to late 2000's, when SQ received 77W's, they would have 2 daily flights to CDG & ZRH (meaning one being a redeye ofc, and the other being in the early afternoon hours). Agreed, but some 77W are still in storage in ASP or in SIN itself, and they need to reconfigure to passenger configuration.

LHR will be freed of 1 77W come Sunday, 30OCT, as they'll be using that for AKL. They could very well revert back to the A350, but they likely upgraded to the 77W because likely of First Class demand.

We'll see how many A380 come refitted into the picture and if they can be utilized on European ops (ZRH, if not maybe CDG).

In another forum, there is a talk of Air India leasing additional capacity, and is rumoured to be taking in some SQ B77W. Will need to see if this come to fruition.

                        • Not sure if this is related but just remembered seeing an Air India 777 in SIA's hangars a few days ago.

It's possible, but is it possible that that could also be the next Delta 777-200LR destined for Air India (VT-AEG)?

don’t think the 77Ws have anything to do with Air India. I see them parked at Changi still (not sure what the area is called, but it’s parallel on the approach onto runway 02L) and they’re very much in SQ colours although missing engines.

                              • SQ is running 70% of current capacity. With them taking in quite a number of A350 /787 during the past few years , these 777 will just stay in storage for the time being.

but with China opening, these 777 might be reactivated.
