well, there are now only 3x 772Rs... SQM, SQN & SRM.
SQL has stopped flying 10 days so safe to say she's out.
I dont think they'll even need to have a regular schedule of usage for them anymore. And my feel is that by Jan 2020 there's going to be only 2 left.
One thing though, they did after all keep the 2013Y refitted cabins over the non-refitted ones. So, yes SVB/C/E will be the last 77Es and SYF/L will leave first.

from the latest financial statement, there seem to be a change of plan.
3 777-200 and 1 777-200ER will be removed from fleet between 30/9/19 to 31/3/20
so by end of 31/3/20, there will be 1 777-200 and 3 X 777-200ER in the fleet.
the previous update is that there will be 1 777-200 and 1 777-200ER by 31/3/20.

So it seems that by 31 March 2020, these are the 777-200/200ERs left in the fleet:
777-200 (x1)
- 9V-SQM/SQN/SRM
777-200ER (x3)
- 9V-SVB
- 9V-SVC
- 9V-SVE
Assuming SQ will be retiring the non-refitted cabins first

i agree, likely as coverage for the 737maxes and spare capacity.
but also agree that its strange they're choosing the ERs vs the regionals... perhaps its to do with the seat count on the SVs (245Y vs 228Y on regionals). or simply the fact that SQM/SQN/SRM are due for major checks sooner given their higher cycle count.
i also mentioned some time ago that SQJ, SVC & SVE were listed for sale on aeroconnect, they havent seem to have found buyers yet.

From a pax point of view it’s nice to have flat beds on the 77E instead of the old regional on the 772s, in line with the new flat bed regional J, so that could be one consideration for keeping them.
Secondly the 77E is also closest in seat count to the A330, losing just 4 J seats and 10 Y seats, so it is the best interim solution as the A330s get deleased, assuming these are the routes being replaced.
Lastly the 77E also retains the flexibility of covering any long haul flights (eg rescue flights for AOG aircraft) since they still have the range to do so.
Maybe they’ll also continue to fly Scoot replacement flights, in which case the lower J and higher Y seat count makes sense too.
Personally I’m happy to fly them and even prefer them to the new regional J haha

On a side note, it has been fascinating to see the 77Ws being replaced by the A350 on most European routes since the first A350 arrived in 2016. Nowadays, SQ 77W ops in Europe are confined to only London (2 daily), Frankfurt (daily), and Paris (10 weekly over the winter)... a huge difference from what it was four years ago. I also see that SQ's 77W ops are now very much concentrated on Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai (as well as other medium haul routes).
Before we know it, we could already be talking about 77W retirements.

The 77Ws are used more for the premium market as it has 4 classes and are doing the SIN-US sectors too. By the time the 777-9 comes into service, some of the 77Ws would be in the 15th year and should be starting their retirement which will see some 77Ws into their 18th year of service before they are totally retired.
