How complex can you possibly make such an easy thing as upgrade???

Fly BA ex Europe in J and you get one leg upgraded to F. Some applies for LH ex US...

Sorry to see that PPS doesn't count - again.

        lets be happy!

Great news, I think I will have to do some extra SQ flying! I had only planned about 10,000 paid miles on SQ in that period, now I want to do more!!! I can squeeze 2 more trips in im sure! I like this being able to upgrade on 77w and A380 deal, very exciting news...

Lots of pessimistic responses, but this is pretty good by SQ standards!

I think that's one of the best parts of this promo (with the caveat on availability, which in these times, is not as constraining as it usually is).

Actually, I think EK is doing a good job of giving SQ a run for its money these days. Flew return on one of their longest segments recently (upgraded oneway) and food, wines selection and quality was much better in both Y and J, not to mention onboard service that was much more responsive.

By comparison, flew the A380 from SYD in J recently and was not impressed. One of the galleys was leaking water and the floor was covered with towels. Upon take-off, the condensation produced an odor akin to being in the midst of sweaty marathon runners

Fair play to them for the offer. We moan they give us nothing so we should be grateful to see something. I know it's only due to the getting a hammering at the moment, not all of which is due to the downturn, but it's better than nothing.

I am particularly impressed that it appears you can fly on the 77W and A380 in J. What a refreshing change from the outdated restrictions they have had on these cabins.

My next SQ long haul is in July.
Between now and then, I am flying the competition.
Same here. I have got plenty of paid long haul travel coming up, but all booked on other carriers. If they drop the Fuel Penalties I may see if I can squeeze a trip or two in.

i find the chart to be incredibly confusing. it says UG2 can go SFO to HKG or SFO-ICN, requiring 30,000 points. yet it says UG4 is 40,000 points, and lists the same routes. why different point totals for the same flights? which one is it?

I think you can fly all the destinations under the UGX you manage to earn. UGX with higher Xs naturally come with more destinations available for upgrade. In other words, if you blow your UG4 on an upgrade you could have gotten with a UG3, then that's just too bad, you have flown too much from April to June.

ummm... i wonder if MI metal counts?

                      i've only got :
                      SIN-SFO-SIN
                      SIN-MNL-SIN
                      SIN-CGK-SIN
                      SIN-KCH-SIN

                      All in Y

Total 20,934 without KCH and 21,812 with KCH.

Thats already a decent number of flights and i still cant get it. Maybe i'll have to find some more excuses to travel.

It's too confusing and too unclear. The 'vague-ness' of the post-16 July date to reveal more info does not inspire confidence in me. I'm holding fire on a trip to New Zealand during this period for now but I'm not holding out indefinitely until they bring out the specifics of the deal at the time of their choosing as my travel dates are pre-16 July.

actually i dont know why everyone is so confused...

earn upgrade points from 1st April to 30th June.

use the vouchers issued (if any) between 16th July and 29th November.

Thats it....so its a carrot to make frequent flyers travel at least 30k miles in the next 6very difficult months.

i say 30k as 25k is to get the upgrade voucher, then most would want to make full use of the voucher by flying at least 5k miles after that.

Well i think i am out.

I agree, it's an extremely generous offer by SQ standards.

Mileage Run: The Hunt for Free Upgrades

SIN-JFK costs 2.500 SGD and gets you 19,000 upgrade points. Paying by PPS Amex and including my PPS bonus, I am also getting 28,000 KF miles.

                                47.000 points/miles for 2.500 SGD makes 0.05 SGD per point/mile.

                                Any better ideas?
