  • how often SIN to the US?

(I posted this on Flyertalk also, so sorry if you are seeing this twice)

I am considering the possibility of a three year position in KL with an american company that will entail a good deal of travel back and forth to the US (west coast and the midlands mostly) to return to the mother ship. I've already paid a visit using SQ 37/38 LAX-SIN so I've had one experience of what might be a version of the regular jump from stateside to KUL.

though I have benchmark of one trip, I am curious as to how frequently in a given year contributors here make the trip from the US to SIN (or nearby) and back; do you use a set routing and do you have a routine for how you prepare for (or recover from) the flights?

    thanks

Other people do the SQ 12/11 from LAX>>>NRT>>>SIN. If you are coming from SFO. then there is SQ 2/1 or SQ 16/15 as well.

Others' epxerience may not speak for you but for me. having to do SFO at least on a quarterly basis, I always go in through SQ 16 and back to SIN on SQ 1. Not that i don't favour SQ 15 back but SQ 15 arrives into SIN at 01ish and experience tells me I'd need an addtional day at home to recover and that is just sleep.. SQ 1 arrives late morning, so I'd have the rest of the day to adjust back to SIN time. For SQ 2 outbound, it also means that my bosses will want to see me back in the office during the day time before the evening flight which I prefer not to.

I must say it really depends on the person. Some factors that I can think of: how you cope with jet lag, how you cope with the travel in general, how the company dictates your travel.
Some of us here likes the ultra-long haul. Some likes to depart from LAX. Some likes to go via SFO.
I think once you start the ritual, you will know what the best for you. As an example, I prefer taking SQ11 LAX-NRT-SIN rather than SQ1 SFO-HKG-SIN because I have problem keeping awake to wait for after midnight departure on SQ 1, and I could not handle well the noon arrival in SIN.
But now, well, I have not been traveling for the past six months, I think I like the newer aircraft better. So, I would not mind taking SQ1 occasionally.
Again, it's back to what you feel the best for your self. I know some here thinks it's silly of me flying from westcoast to Singapore via Europe. But, in fact it's not that bad for my body clocks.

      Welcome to SQTalk.

My flight to KUL last month was over $8k (C class) and most of that was spent on the SQ 37/38 segment. I have seen threads here and elsewhere that suggest that an SQ RTW can be had for around $6K, (in C or even F) so heading out eastwards does not sound too strange; in fact as I have family that live in Europe, it would make a lot of sense to add a day or two to a planned trip and pay a quick visit.

        Cheers
