  • What ever happened to the former Big Tops???

I was wondering what the status of Sq's past Big Tops are. I know some of them were sent to Ansett Australia (when they existed), along with a few old Megatops, 9V-SMB being one of them. But when Ansett folded, 9V-SMB came back to the SQ fleet before being retired again. There were rumors that some of the older Big Tops and Megatops went to Air India, TAAZ angola, and Travel City Drect. Can anyone confirm this? I know that some Megatops were sold to Dragonair Cargo but also heard Dragonair took two Big Tops as well.

      Wasn't SMB a 744?

the Big Top 743's carried 9V-SK* and N1**K* series registrations.

Yes... ansett got a couple of 747-400's to replace the -300's in about the year 2000 I think it was.

I know the SMB is a Megatop (I've been on it in 1991). Thats why I put that Big Tops were sent to Ansett, along with a few Megatops, and SMB was one of the Megatops. Sorry for the confusion. SQTalker, thanks for the historical fleet info!!

9V-SMB and SMD are still owned by SQ leased to Air Pacific until their own 787's arrive.
