  • B777-300ER or A380?

Will be booking flights (Economy) soon for trip in September next year (hope the Aus$ is still worth something then!!) to UK and Paris with stopovers. My question relates to the first leg of the homeward trip.

We will be in Paris and could fly out of CDG on SQ333 (B777-300ER) that day at 12.25pm, or catch Eurostar back to London (can get tickets at GBP59 each) and stay a night in London then fly out in the morning on SQ317 (A380).

Is the A380 worth going that little bit extra ($$ and effort) or will we be just as comfortable in the B777-300ER for the long leg to Singapore? Which would you choose? I look forward to your thoughts. Cheers.

if you manage to get a seat on the A380 upper deck, yes, go for it: small cabin up there, not noisy at all, plus, when sitting on a window, you have one extra storage compartment for your stuff. imho: totally worth it.

the 777-300er is very nice, though. i would choose the 380 because of the upper deck.

I wouldn't go out of my way, spending time and money and suffering the hassles of LHR to fly on a different aircraft -- especially since the seats, IFE, and service will be just about identical. I would pay more for the convenience of flying out of CDG if I were already in Paris.

catch eurostar to london then stay overnight just for A380? its too troublesome ! B773er is as good compare to the hassle +time comsume + $$ spent + pain in heathrow !

I agree - depart from CDG. Far more convenient, IFE, seats and service are about the same.
Unless you really want to fly on the A380 that is..

Thanks so much for your input - flying out of CDG it is! (I will have flown one leg on the A380 - SIN-LHR - so am looking forward to experiencing it then). Good to know that 777-300ER experience is almost as good! Cheers

If you wanted to tell your friends you had been on A380, then go for it.
Otherwise, 777-300ER is quite a comfortable aircraft in economy.

Aside from bragging rights, the only advantage of flying the WhaleJet over the 777-300ER (in Y or C classes) is that the WhaleJet is quieter.

If you're visiting both CDG and LHR, then wouldn't you fly into London and out of Paris (or v.v.), which means you get to fly the A380 to London and then 77W on your return from CDG?

Ah my two favourite airports in the world... CDG and LHR!.....

                      not...

Have you considerd flying through ZRH on the 77W instead?

773er is the same in Y besides the noise factor (which isn't much of a factor if you use them super Bose noise-cancelling stuff or equivalent).

i fly the 773er most of the time to FRA (SQ325/326) and honestly, the only seats to avoid in Y are the emergency window ones

                          TanyaB,

Not sure which city you are flying into on returning to Australia, but have you considered flying SIN-SYD on the A380 and then flying onto your home city from SYD, might be easier than going back through LHR.

I am from Melbourne and have taken the above option next week, just so I can get a ride on the A380, which I have been hanging out to do for what seems like years now, got a window seat upperdeck in Y.

                          SQ238.

Thanks everyone - yes I am very lucky to be flying on the A380 out of Singapore into LHR...just hope I manage to snare a pair of seats on the Upper Deck! Am considering just booking on the website to get the opportunity to put seat request in nice and early as I understand a Travel Agent can't do this for you (??).

And of course (SQFlyergirl!) I will be able to now compare two of the most maligned airports in the world!! Can't wait to see which one is worst! (At least I know Changi works properly!).

BTW - if anyone is still reading this thread...I have "played" on the Singapore Airlines website (hoping to take advantage of early bird fares) and want to fly on Saturday October 10th from SIN-MEL on SQ217 departing 9.55am. It seems to show up as flying on every other day - is there some reason that you know of as to why I'm not being offered it as an option in my on-line booking? Hope you can help. Cheers!

If you are flying either economy or business, I really don't see what the fuss is all about to go out of your way to fly on the 380 over the 77W and sacrifice convenience. The seats are the same and the 1st 77W came into service only 11 months earlier than the 1st 380 commercial service. So even if you are in the 77W as oppose to the 380, you are still in a young new aircraft.
