  • present credit card used to purchase e-ticket during check-in?

i have purchase numerous e-tickets online and never been requested to produce the credit card that was used for purchase, during check-in (even though i made a point to carry the card in my wallet when travelling).

recently, i purchased some e-tickets online for mi/sq flights using credit card, and today my credit card issuer informed me that the credit card's security has been compromised, thus card is blocked. the replacement card will bear a different number.

now... we always see "IF PAYMENT IS MADE VIA CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT CARD (ONLY APPLICABLE FOR INTERNET SALES), PLEASE PRESENT CREDIT AND/OR DEBIT CARD (S) USED FOR THIS TRAVEL FOR VERIFICATION PRIOR TO YOUR DEPARTURE."

do i need to call up silkair/sq office to inform them that the card used to purchase ticket has been blocked and replaced with one bearing a different number?

or i just bring both the old card (that was used to purchase the e-tickets but its now been blocked) and new replacement card. after all, even if the check-in staff were to ask to present the "old" credit card, i can always show it to them ... and they would not "swipe" the card anyway or do any electronic verification... ?

They only need to check that the credit card number that you provided when you made your booking is the same as the credit card that you present at the airport. They don't actually do anything to the credit card, so they can't tell whether or not your old credit card is active or not. But if you are concerned, maybe you could inform the ticket office about the issue but other than that it should be fine as far as I know.

never had to present the card myself. My credit card was ripped off three weeks before I had an important meeting down south.
Hotels and travel booked using it.
I found out that while your old card is effectively cancelled, there is a period where the new number is linked to the old one - I had two months of transaction statements that came bearing both card numbers, indicating a link between them.

Interestingly, I booked into a certain hotel in Kota Kinabalu with one card, but was never asked to show it and no questions asked when I settled everything with a totally different card....

But best ring the airline to confirm it won't be a problem. Phonecall is cheap for peace of mind.

i've had to show my card a few times, but all they do is check you're the physical holder of the credit card by checking the number used to book the ticket matches the number on the card (prevents fraud i guess)... they don't check the card is still valid...

My understanding is that if you are PPS or KF Gold, no more credit card verification is necessary and not sure if this is applicable to your case. But in any case pls check with SQ.

I don't think the credit card verification has anything to do with one's status.
It is for fraud protection purpose and it applies to everyone AFAIK.
The enforcement, however, is not 100%.

You are right that it should not be status linked. However, my last two bookings through the website, I went down to the PPS Centre in Paragon, Singapore and the SQ Staff me that they have a new policy for PPS regarding Credit card verification. The new policy is that PPS members do not have to go through the verification process for online bookings....I reasonable certain it applied to KF Gold but please double check on this.

I would say about 75% of the time I book through SQ's website I get asked to show the credit card. So it is a bit hit or miss. If you book through an on line travel agent then there is no need to show the credit card.

                  Seems plausible.

Never once had to show my CC when checking in if I had keyed in my KF number while booking online.

Would tend to agree with that. After attaining KF Gold status, I have not been asked for cc verification since then.
