  • SIN to SFO on SQ2 in Y

    Hi all,

I'm a relatively new member here although i must admit i have been lurking over a year before registering as a member.

I will be traveling out to SFO in Y come end December and i was just wondering if it was better to travel out to SFO on friday or a saturday on SQ 2.

Which flight would usually be emptier out to SFO from HKG? Since i have the choice of traveling out on either a Friday or Saturday, i would rather choose a emptier flight out to get more personal space.

I was initially planning to try out the new Y on board SQ 16 but prices have halted my once eagerly awaited moment. An increase of SGD $400 to $2834 by clicking the B777 out of SIN-ICN-SFO option instead of the B747 SIN-HKG-SFO. Prices are only the same at $2434 for the SQ 2 out of SIN and SQ 15 back to SIN.

Guess my eagerly anticipated moment has to wait till my return journey

SQ 1/2 choc-a-bloc on weekends, fri/sat/sun usually full in all cabins; also SQ2 gets a heavy load of pax from BLR on both fri & sat from SQ501.

Any idea SQ2's 744 version is? There's 4 versions of 744's on seatguru.com and i have got no idea which one, although it seems more like Version 1 to me.

Any recommendations for good seats to look out in Y for both aisle and window seats?

I never actually knew what the difference is, but the product is the same across the B744 fleet.

        Good seats: 61-63 AC HK

They are all basically the same layouts. Except for version 4 as it is the 744 leased from Malaysian Airlines.

That went back months ago when they started with the 77W on the AKL route.

I have actually been looking at the SQ16 as an alternative to the SQ2. Besides it being the 77W, as I will be traveling in a group of 3 (incl one child) I like the idea of breaking up the flight into two reasonable length sectors rather than 1 short and 1 long.

How do the loads in Y compare on SQ16 in comparison to SQ2.

If of course, SQ2 changes to A380 well that may change things.

i do agree on soak's views on travelling to SFO with SQ. Most important factor would be the load on SQ 2 as it is always better to travel on a slightly emptier plane compared to a full pax on long-haul flights.

Had a chance to travel on a near empty Y in CX last November to SFO and i my own personal "spacebed", Y style, with a window view to boot, all to myself. SQ 2 seems to be always full due to the connecting pax from BGL.

How's the load factor for both SQ 15/16 coming out and in to SIN? Do give your insight on this if anyone of you guys have happened to travel on SQ15/16 in Y.

Got no idea why SQ raises the prices for SQ16 starting from Dec 20 for an additional SGD $400. Was looking forward to try the 777 on the flight out, but seems like SQ has kinda ruined my plans for it.

Could it be possible that the lowest booking class is not available for SQ16, but available for SQ2? And also, I am pretty sure all the airlines assign period after Dec 15 as 'peak season.' Thus higher fares.

SQ 16 is no better, SQ 15 can be a catch though. i'd rate the SIN-SFO-SIN flights based on loads in the descending order as SQ1, SQ16, SQ2, SQ15. this said, i've seen SQ2 packed to the rafters sometimes.

I took SQ1 from SFO to SIN last August and noticed it was quite empty to the point that i even managed to get a full row of 3 seats to myself. That was during the SFO to HKG route and it sure did get more pax when it reached HKG.

I also took CX from SFO to SIN and it was packed 100% in Y as i believe it was a codeshared flight with AA. Afternoon flights out of SFO are usually crowded as hell from what i noticed, correct me if i'm wrong.
