  • Baggage allowance and fees for destinations using weight concept?

    Im flying JFK-FRA-SIN-MLE next sat.
My Surfboard wheelie bag still has a 25 Kg SQ sticker from my flight home from Australia in January. At that time I had 3 boards in there with bubble wrap and other gear.
This time I will try to just pack 4 boards and bubble wrap and see what it weighs in at (Hopefully around the same 25kg)
All the extra gear will be checked in a different bag that my girlfriend will check.

I can't seem to find what the cost would be if i have to pay overweight charges. The SQ website only shows the cost for destinations other than to/from the US.

IM only KF Gold , so any extra piece allowance for *G or flying F won't help since I really can't bring an extra bag.

There are usually different rules for bags of sporting equipment.

Do you happen to know where the rules about sporting equipment are on SQ.com
        I can't find them .
I had by surfboard bag at 23Kgs and they charged me 150 bucks for having too many boards.
Im flying F and am KF gold , the only thing i was able to get is a discount from 300 to 150 by having them call singapore directly

Too many boards in the bag. I have never seen the rule anywhere , or had to open my bag for them to count the surfboards.
They also made me sign a release form saying they are not liable for damage to any surfboard.
I also made sure the bag was 23 Kg and put all the gear in a small bag.
Total for 2 people in F was 4 bags all under the weight limit.

I've never heard of them looking at the content of a sporting equipment bag. All that should matter is the weight of the bag. Strange. I would write to customer services asking for clarification before your return trip.

We are @ the SKL in SIN, and I just spoke to customer service, they are looking into the matter and will page me.

I am curious if we are allowed to pay a surcharge if our luggage is between 23 kg (50 lbs) and 32 kg (70 lbs), just like many other airlines do.
Otherwise, this new baggage allowance limit is rendering most of my Tumi check-in bags useless.

hi StarG.... i feel your pain. i have been in the same predicament with my tumi. but you can pay a surcharge of 10SGD per kilo.... this was asked of me on a recent flight ex-sin. when i asked that they rebook me on another carrier since i was 7kg over and they were trying to charge me 70SGD despite me flying in F, the check-in agent conferred with her manager and let me go.

                        But wasn't that for MNL-SIN?
The per kg charge is perhaps much higher for LAX-SIN.
Sorry I was not being clear in my post. My concern relates to LAX-SIN/N.A. routes.

you're right... it was ex-mnl. i have a bad memory. if you are concerned ex-lax... ask to speak to joanna... she is very, very helpful, and goes out of her way to take care of any problems for qpp and tpp.

They gave me the form to mail to customer service, so not a real solution.
Last night in MLE , I checked the board bag all the way to EWR without anyone asking any questions. We have a stopover in SIN , but we were able to check 2 bags to EWR .
The other 2 bags were checked to SIN , and we will recheck them tomorrow.
