  • Bang on aircraft door

My colleague had this interesting experience in Dhaka (DAC), Bangladesh.
He and another colleague were travelling back to Singapore on SQ.

Before they board the plane, they had to send an important email.
DAC does not have WiFi and mobile operators in Bangladesh do not have WCDMA network, so he had to resort to using GPRS - very slow speed.

The ground staff reminded him many times to board the plane but he insisted on waiting for the email to be dispatched first. When they eventually arrived at the entrance to the aircraft, the door was already closed. So they banged very hard at the aircraft door and shouted loudly to be let in. Guess what, the crew opened the door and they got in.

Anybody witnessed such incidents before ?

That's using brute force. "Open sesame" works SO much better!

If you ask me they should have been denied boarding for failing to follow the directions of the ground staff... harsh maybe but they wouldn't do it again! plus the passengers that had boarded would get away on time.

if i was the captain, i would say re book them on another flight. Once the doors are close, they are close. Same as the boarding gate, if your late o well. Now if they knocked nicely, and didnt yell i would reconsider lol

if they denied boarding there would have been more of a delay to get the bags off. much easier to just let them on!

If you are referring to the cabin crew, I don't think that's possible because the crew cannot open the door from inside. If they do so, the emergency chute will automatically fold out as in the case of a crash landing. The only way the doors can be opened is from outside by the ground crew.

Only if the door is armed.

I think that's only the case when the doors are armed (hence the announcement "cabin crew arm the doors and cross-check" or words to that effect). AFAIK, when the doors are unarmed, they can be opened from both sides.

EDIT Sorry, just saw that Savage25 answered that whilst I was composing my response! Great minds and all that...!

I think it CAN be opened from inside.

of course it can - you think in a crash they're gonna wait for someone to stroll up to the outside and let them out

i don't think he should have been let on...his behavior was rediculous. i see this all the time when people are using their cell phones, and an FA has to ask them 3, 4 or 5 times to turn it off. i say just throw them off the flight.

Thank you. I should also thank the others for highlighting the possibility of opening the doors from inside unless armed.
