  • Check-in luggage from Singapore to Chicago

I was just wondering if it is possible to check-in my luggage from Changi through to Chicago. I am flying to Newark to SQ and then UA to Chicago. Having experienced US internal flights before........

I think you might need to clear at point of first entry. Not 100% sure though.

OP will have to collect, clear customs and recheck baggage at EWR.

Just flew in from Singapore on May 18th (via SQ 022, in Y), final destination was Ottawa (CO 2759, in Y)

Two separate tickets, bags tagged all the way to Ottawa, at EWR had to collect my bags, and then dropped them off at the connection belt (which is located right after you exit customs turn left i believe)

On a side note...man what a wonderful class of service executive economy is ..i will miss it

you can check in all the way, but you have to go through custom and pick up your luggage at first US entry point.

In my case, I flew from Melbourne - LAX cleared custom, picked up my luggage and off to ORD. Well, in this particular case, when I arrived at ORD, my luggage was still in LAX...not surprised I flew with United..

            Can I poison your mind?

Fly NH, SIN-NRT-ORD. Just pick them up in ORD, no need to re-check

Thanks all! I will try to take only carry-on then but it might not be possible. In any case, UA will probably make me check-in at EWR as I remember them to be quite strict about the weight.

You must be kidding. US-based airlines are notorious for turning a blind eye to the amount of carry-on (except itty bitty planes).

I agree with the observations. My carry-on now will be okay for Europe and Asia, but when I am in the US, mine would look smaller than other pax's rollabag.

My rollaboard has to go sideways on most asia-pacific and european airlines' overhead bins, but on some US-based airlines fits lengthwise with plenty of room to spare.
