With the arrival of a new A380 in September (sorry, forgot the reg), do you guys think, realistically, that SQ318 will go A380 daily from that point onwards?
Only reason I ask is that I'm on it on 7th October but thats a Tuesday so not yet covered by an A380 even with the current uograde on days 1,3,5 & 7.

Yes. The odds of the 2/4/6 being upgraded to a A380 is very high.

Yes. I think it is very likely.

The reg is currently F-WWSI. To be reregistered 9V-SKF. She is MSN012, currently in XFW at the moment outfitting. Don't know what the latest news is though.

Ah Yes, anyway - see here: List of Airbus A380 orders and deliveries - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

                  Supposedly Sept 2008 delivery.

That was before the fifth round of delays.

                      So when's the date then?

Unannounced, but almost certainly before the end of the year. I'm more worried about when we'll see 9V-SKG, 9V-SKH, 9V-SKI, 9V-SKJ, and the second tranche. In announcing the fifth delay, Airbus said they were reevaluating whether or not to continue to aim for a production rate of four per month. Based on the current and recent sales rates and the size of the backlog, I think a production rate of two to three per month would be more reasonable. During the current sales boom, Airbus never managed to sell WhaleJets at even 24 per year, the last year they did that was 1993.

When SKF arrives, I don't see them putting up another route. As a guess, I'd think one of two things will happen. 1)they complete the daily SQ318 pattern with it 2)They use SKF to relieve the other 5 for heavy MX
I have done a bit of calculation on my own and I reckon that SQ could in fact carry out their schedule of double dailies to London (3 aircraft in rotation) and 1 flight each to Sydney and Tokyo (2 aircraft in rotation), meaning that the 5 aircraft will be sufficient (1 clue to this is that they will be operating the 2nd daily LHR flight with the 5th aircraft 4 x weekly, theoretically,if they needed 2 aircraft each for each LHR return flight, then the 2nd daily should only be operated 3 x weekly to ensure a comfortable cycle with 1 A380, however, since they are able to operate it 4 x weekly, it shows they are possibly able to rotate 3 aircraft on the double dailies to London since they need the other 2 to serve SYD and NRT)

                          - the 6th could then be used either for a Melbourne (leave MEL at midnight), 3 x weekly to HKG/SFO or perhaps 1 daily to HKG.

Excellent analysis. I think someone established earlier that the 5th aircraft would be sufficient to operate 318 daily. A whole lot more options open up when SKF arrives.

Maybe SQ wants to run the operation on the "safe" side and does not want to plan an overly-ambitious schedule for the A380s, as they are still facing some initial teething problems and still in the learning stage. Maybe once the one year mark is passed, and more airports outside of Singapore have experiences with the A380s, they can plan a more ambitious schedule. Of course, they will always need a spare.

Can't wait to fly SQ A380 to the US soon!

Could you please post the rotation that you think would work? Don't forget MX intervals.
