  • SQ Expensive - SIN-DXB-SIN

Well, planning a trip to Dubai and sent a mail to my TA for quotes.. here's what I got...

    SQ 490 14JUN Singapore(Changi) - Dubai(Dubai) 2340 0255+1
    SQ 495 18JUN Dubai(Dubai) - Singapore(Changi) 2120 0850+1

    Fare: SGD4750 excluding taxes
Remarks : On confirmation, E-ticket will be issued.

    OPTION 2:
    ========

    TG 414 15JUN Singapore(Changi) - Bangkok(Suvarnabhumi Intl) 1530 1650
    TG 517 15JUN Bangkok(Suvarnabhumi Intl) - Dubai(Dubai) 1805 2135
    TG 522 18JUN Dubai(Dubai) - Bangkok(Suvarnabhumi Intl) 1740 0525+1
    TG 403 19JUN Bangkok(Suvarnabhumi Intl) - Singapore(Changi) 0800 1115

    Fare: SGD1652 excluding taxes
Remarks : On confirmation, paper ticket will be issued.

Equipment wise, SQ is flying the 777-300 for this route, TG from BKK to Dubai is using A330-300. Think seat comfortability wise, both are similiar. Probably will be missing the great in-flight service.

But the price, almost 3k more on SQ, yes I do get a direct flight instead of a transit for TG, but then I will get a short holiday in BKK on way back...

Well, guess I will fly TG this time.....

SQ490 / 14 JUN 08 looks like that only the highest Economy Class fare bucket, S, is available.

SQ495 / 18 JUN 08 is wide open but I suspect the departing flight's fare bucket is pushing the overall itinerary price up.

TG414 is wide open but TG517 only has Y B M H Q open but not the five lower fare buckets.

TG522/18JUN and TG403/19JUN look a zeroed out to me. Hmmm.

OP is talking about business class. TG has that promotional fare come up from time to time. I think it comes up to S$19xx all-in.

That is the objective of the promotional fare

I do think that MH is a nicer carrier on the whole than TG... and I'd also rather connect at KUL than BKK.

The new MH Regional Lounge also looks very good:

But think of the miles, think of the miles.

Which is why I sometimes wonder why TG complained bitterly when SQ joined *A. I bet they must have won quite a fair bit of business from those flying them just to earn miles for SQ seats!

MH Might be nicer than TG to some, but hey, one man's meat is another's poison. However, on the DXB route, MH uses the measely A330-300 with very antiquated offerings. If you get the -200, not that bad but definitely not the -300s!

For that amount (S$4750), you should be flying SQ business class?! I paid $4100 (coroprate TA rate) for J class to DXB in Feb and March.

People... remember that SQ is the most expensive to fly out of SIN as it is the home based airline to anywhere in premium classes.

If you want cheaper fares, fly via somewhere else ie BKK, KUL, DOH.. get my drift?
