I feel TPE-LAX will not come back easily since they don't earn much money on this route

Poor economy passenngers like me who fly to LAX often.

Now there are 3 flights daily (almost) SQ12, SQ38 and SQ28.

The A345 are removing their Economy seats.....now they suspend SQ28....then what, we poor EY pax got to squeeze like sardines in the 747s??

Situation is getting from bad to worse.....sigh

Well the A380 gates at LAX TBIT was ready on one of the concourse, and they have been repaving the alleyway between T-4 and TBIT a couple weeks ago... not sure if that is complete yet...

I believe the airport has indeed made some changes on taxiways and things like that... hopefully they will be ready soon.

My main concern is the lack of seating rooms for a plane filled with 450-500 passengers at those gates towards the end of TBIT.

Thanks Taipeiflyer for your updates on TW economy! I believe with a new president, Taiwan hopefully will be better.

SQ27/28 has been removed from schedule from 01-Oct-08. RIP.

New flights SQ880/881 were added to serve SIN-TPE-SIN.

          SQ880 SIN 0125 TPE 0555
          SQ881 TPE 0700 SIN 1140

SQ881 has the same timing as SQ27, but SQ880 has terrible timing.

Did some CSI work and concluded that 880 and 881 is operated by a regional 2 class 772 (most likely). crapology

Looks like this is the weakest link SQ ever has. it is only interested in the Taiwanese market plying the return route. What would I do in Taoyuan at 6am??

Okay, so unless SQ pull something out of the hat, SQ12 is the only option for us Y pax from 1/10/08 who want to travel SIN/LAX with SQ, and on an ageing 744.

Does anyone who has flown SQ12 know what the loads are like in Y on this route. Is it more full on the SIN/NRT leg rather than the NRT/LAX or is it always full on both legs?

I've taken this route a couple of times, as far as I can tell, it's always full all the way to LAX... also, bathrooms are always full because a lot of the japanese, being very hygienic, clean their teeth before and after meals... so lines are always long: or at least when i'm on that flight anyway.

And THAT is why I think SQ11/12 will get the A380 before SFO! Again, it may not be a coincidence that they cancel the LAX-TPE route the very month they are to get another A380.......

I certainly hope so! I have a redemption ticket in F for August and December to LAX and I'm praying that the numbers 380 appear on my itinerary soon... *excited.. run around like a kid with ADD*

But I am still curious as to what the effect might be? Was the current regime relatively protectionist when it comes to aviation rights for international carriers into Taiwan?

Come to think of it, SIA once operated many regional routes out of TPE, in particular to the Japanese cities. Wonder why all of them has since been dropped?
Help make this article a better one!

Taiwan is actually very open in terms of granting traffic rights. SQ still has the right to fly to NRT, HKG etc, in addition to LAX. They just chose not to operate them for commercial reasons.

ya, SQ used to fly SIN-TPE-NRT and even SIN-HKG-TPE. SQ used to fly SIN-KHH (which is Taiwan's second largest city). Now we don't see these routes because I think they can earn more money on other routes. SIN-TPE-LAX also goes into history
I was suprised of dropping SIN-TPE-LAX. Because I feel that the new Taiwan's president is much better than the current one and can actually improve Taiwan's economy. SQ chooses to drop the route after our new president was elected. kind of weird.

It has nothing to do with politics. I would have agreed with you if SQ chooses to drop this routing on 20-May-08.

TPE-LAX-TPE was dropped because of low yield. As taipeiflyer mentioned, the decision was probably made when SQ reduced the frequency from 7x to 4x weekly in January.
