Malcolm Turnbull was sat in front of me in 2A on this mornings SQ231 to SYD. I knew he looked familiar but I only worked out who he was when a couple also in F asked for a picture.

Interesting how an ex-PM of Aust did not fly with a national flag carrier, could have flown QF82 or QF84 SIN-SYD, or if he needs to fly F, he could have flown QF2, or prolly just the timing that was not right.

I thought I heard even back when he was PM he had Star Gold status. In discussions back when SQ's CBR flight was announced a couple of people confirmed there's no requirement for Australian government to use QF.

not necessarily, they always think of 'efficiency'. PM's car is now a German BMW-7series to replace Oz Holden Caprice
That's actually for a different reason though. Australia has built its last car so now the Holdens are also being sourced from Germany though GM-Opel, therefore there's no longer any local manufacturing jobs to support. Prior to local production ceasing, all parliamentary vehicles had to be Australian given the amount of financial assistance the government itself was giving to domestic manufacturers.
Going off the conversation he was having with the crew before the doors opened and his escort who was waiting for him I get the impression he is quite a fan of SQ.

Reason: Quite not quote... :-)

Not SQ but Singapore related as I was on QR943 SIN-DOH a few days ago and while waiting to disembark I noticed the guy sat in front looked familiar but couldn't place him. Then an Aussie Girl walked up to him on leaving the aircraft and said 'So where are you going Mr Cheika'. Then I realised it was the Australian Rugby Coach Michael Cheika, or ex-Coach following the World Cup.
