  • SQ37 vs SQ27 travel time question...

I have a question for those who have done the LAX-SIN non-stop (A345).

Is the travel time (17.30 hours) much more difficult to tolerate then the 14.10 hours for the LAX-TPE flight?

To me, the nearly 18 hours seems like a long time to be couped up in an aircraft. I'm not claustrophobic either.

hi fclasspax... i would say that it depends on when you are flying. if you are flying after the a340s get retrofitted with the new J class, i would much rather endure the 18 hour lax-sin flight than the 14 hour tpe-lax flight in the spacebed. lax-tpe is cheaper if that is also a consideration... but for me, i would rather pay the premium and fly the longer route to be on the new J.

      Okay. Thanks for the help!

I did a search of this site and did not see a date for the retrofitting of the new J seats. (I'm sure it is there somewhere.)

Could you please tell me what the schedule is?

BTW, the SQ27 (LAX-TPE) route doesn't show for my dates in August, so I assume it is sold out.

I think the A340-500 are scheduled to be refitted May-August.

There are actually no SQ27/28 bookings available from 30 April. It is suspected that it is going to be discontinued. See attached thread discussion.

It looks like the new "all business class" A345 is due for the LAX-SIN route in late Sept '08.

At least according to this source:

IMO, the non-stops feel just slightly longer than TPE-LAX/LAX-TPE.
Even when flying SpaceBeds (SQ28 vs SQ38), I would take the non-stops any day over the one stops.
You can manage your time better on the non-stops as you don't have to put your seat up & disembark & etc during as when you are transitting.

The nonstop is not much harder to tolerate. Certainly on SIN-LAX, the nonstop is preferable to the TPE stop. My issue with the LAX-SIN nonstop is that it gets in so bloody early (often before 6:00 am), and you wake up at least 90 minutes before that for breakfast and pre-landing stuff, which makes your arrival day a pretty difficult one on the body. The TPE stop lands around the same time, but then you can nap again on the TPE-SIN leg, which I find helps in the transition to SIN time. But if you have some reason to be ready for business or social activities on the day of your arrival in SIN, you may not have much choice but to take the nonstop.

This is comparing SpaceBeds to SpaceBeds, not the "New Business Class" product to be deployed on the route from August.
