I can't wait to see the confusion/annoyance caused to non-savvy travellers by one route served by three completely different F cabins, even if only for a short while when it would just be two.

Yup, and the new schedules are reflected in the SQ website now.

Do note that there is a long 'layover' time for one Jumbo and the Whalejet. For the whalejet, SQ221 will arrive SYD at 0555 while SQ222 will depart SYD at 1540. For the Jumbo, SQ219 arrive SYD at 1855, while SQ220 will depart SYD the next morning.

Wonder what is the rationale of parking these planes in SYD for such a long time? Won't it incur more parking charges? Thought SQ will be more efficient in utilising their planes.

The Jumbo has always had a long layover. This has been the rotation of 219 since before A380 came into service. SQ does not want to have an overnight flight out of Sydney that will arrive into SIN in some weird morning hours. If there is no curfew at SYD, SQ would probably do an after midnight flight with this Jumbo.

It is the layover of the A380 that is strange. If SQ can do it in about 100 minutes now, why would it park this Whalejet for more than 9 hours at SYD? I guess SQ would like to provide a seamless A380 connection to LHR from SYD. SQ must have its reason behind this deicision.

I would agree with you on this. A 1540 SYD departure will mean a 2155 SIN arrival. About 1.5hrs later, this bird will be able to do SIN-LHR at 2320.

They'll do 221/222/322/317/221 (although It'd mean 2 long stays, 1 in SYD, another in SIN between 317/221.

Which is why I think they could put the aircraft that's just returned to SIN as 317 onto a regional route, or when there's enough aircraft, put it on an SQ12 or something (returning to SIN midnight 2 days later) + a regional in the morning, returning in the afternoon/early evening, then prepped up for the start of the cycle again wit SQ221. When you have enough planes you can do that.

How many flight hours per day would you expect SQ to get from their WhaleJets?

Does this mean no A380 movements at SIN in the day?

                              Singapore to increase Sydney flights

Great news.... hopefully we will get some more flights out of Brisbane. Been a little busy and trying to get SQ flights.

                              http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...-23109,00.html

SINGAPORE Airlines will increase its flights between the city-state and Sydney from April.

A fourth daily service will be added on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays beginning in April before going daily in June to give SIA 28 weekly flights on the route.

"We have been especially pleased with the increased demand for our Sydney services,'' said Huang Cheng Eng, SIA's executive vice president of marketing and regions.

The new service will use Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

SIA already operates the Airbus A380 superjumbo jet on the Singapore-Sydney route.

SIA was the launch customer for the double decker A380, flying the inaugural commercial flight in October last year.
