  • what's on a flight manifest?

    hi there everyone,

i've been on this forum for some time now, but never registered as i hadn't much to contribute...

but i was wondering what sort of information is actually available to flight attendants on the manifest?

are FAs able to "profile" passengers based on their age, nationality and fare codes? (which i presume are available in the manifest)

any light shed on this much appreciated.

    Welcome to SQTalk, taxico

AFAIK a flight manifest is meant to 'profile' (for lack of a better word) pax, but I'm not certain about the extent of information. Most importantly (to me anyway ), your FF status will be in the manifest. Others include information about your itinerary, medical issues such as allergies, whether you've ordered a special meal, info to identify UMs, whether you're an op up and any comments entered into your PNR by a TA or airline staff. I don't remember whether info about the type of ticket you're on is in there but I'm sure they have to have some way of identifying non-revs so I'm quite certain such info is included. I'm sure someone else could shed better light on this issue.

I believed that they don't show the type of ticket you are on the flight manifest as once I took a mileage ticket on 1st and they did not know about it.

SQ flight manifests do not include age, nationality, or fare codes.

thanks everyone! this has been very informative. : )

i had always wondered, due to observations i make on the plane, about pinkerton syndrome...

but since such information isn't available on the manifest, it probably might be the passengers behaviors i'm not privy to.

I'm sorry I don't understand. What's the connection between the flight manifest and Pinkerton syndrome?

The Pinkerton Syndrome, if exists, should have more to do with someone's appearance than what's printed on the manifest.

don't they use the manifest to tell who's who on the a/c during an accident?

I would assume that besides the manifest (which may have limited data), there are other reports that can be run using various data fields (passport info, contact phone numbers etc.) from the PNRs of the passengers.

No. Most airlines don't even list economy passengers' names on the manifest unless they have frequent flier status, a special meals, or other special needs. In the event of an emergency, ground staff generate a list for that purpose.

I had a peek at the manifest on my flight last night - i only saw a list of names, FF statuses, and special meal requests.

SQ manifests also have a one-character code the meanings of which were once explained to me by a purser. I don't remember them though.

Seat assignments are made by ground staff. The manifest has no more information than the ground staff had (as ground staff generate the manifest). Of course, people do switch seats. In practice, DNA testing is used to identify remains.
