Waitlist for award Y seat on A380?

As my dream to use KF points to upgrade from paid J --->Suite has evaporated for now, and I would not be making the effort to requalify for PPS next year, I thought I would burn off my remaining SQ points for a flight bet Syd and Sin in July next year (also can inspect T3 and the new SKL plus I have my requalifying vouchers to use).

At the moment, I can redeem a Y seat on the A380 from Syd to Sin, but can only confirm a Y seat on the 744 from Sin-Syd around the time I want to return to Syd. I can WL but for a Y seat on the A380 but what would be my chances of getting the seat released? (presumably my PPS status would help), but then I would risk losing a confirmed Y seat on the 744 on my preferred date back to Syd from Sin. Do you think I should WL for the Y seat on the A380, or should just take the confirmed Y seat on the 744 ( I would already have travelled on the A380 once by then)?

Why would you risk losing the confirmed (744) seat by waitlisting for your preferred flight (A380)?

I think the agent would keep the confirmed Y in 744 and waitlisted for A380 flight. Your QPP status would be a help in this case.

Been in your situation several times. For online redemption booking (to get 15% disc), you can't have confirmed and waitlisted flight on the same sector together. You must choose one of them, the confirmed one or the waitlisted one.
If you choose the waitlisted one, it would be a gambling. I think QPP status won't help for award redemption booking, just work for revenue booking (correct me if I'm wrong)...
