  • Brussels again?

Any inside scoop on the likelihood of SQ serving BRU again? They are already here for cargo flights....

Much as I hate the changes to the PPS programme, mile for mile service in air I'd still take SQ over LH which is the policy adhering alternative I get (BRU-FRA-SIN) for trips home. The other alternative of AMS-SIN puts me at risk of KLM so I steer clear of that!

I don't think SQ will serve BRU again, at least not in the foreseeable future. They closed their BRU office, when they abandoned the route. I think, this already means that SQ does not have intention to make a come back anytime soon.
Perhaps other more knowledgeable members would be able to confirm my statements.

i think that there is a good chance that SQ might return to BRU someday.

though BRU is in an even more uncomfortable situation that VIE ... having FRA and AMS, two European major hubs nearby and definitely not the market to eastern or central Europe.

The way I se it, we will encounter major alliance turbulence as SQ vividly tries to untighten Star Alliance ties by favoring their own corporate identity and branding over Star Alliance's. Additionally, there is the possible merger of Delta and UA, Lufthansa-Swiss and Alitalia and of course the entry of Shanghai Airlines, Air China and Air India to SA. I think that today's development could make a major shift in alliances / break ups by 2010, which would ... and here's the tie to the topic ... make a intra-european expansion very attractive for SQ.

SQ marketing divisions haven't been sleeping. A study I made for my uni department about Austrians knowing SQ was rather astounding as 98% of the people with Asian heritage knew SQ, 87% of them have flown them and 80% still would trust SQ over *any* airlines for the Asian market. Figures among Austrians revealed that 86% knew SQ and about 51% would fly SQ if they'd decide to come back. I think though SQ has left many markets here like BRU, VIE, MAD, ... they've been eagerly promoting their products. With the entry of the 787, we might really see the continuance to these places ... perhaps even before.

i think those numbers speak for themselves. SQ is not forgotten here!

The european routes are currently SQ's most profitable and we're at the start of a substantial increase in fleet capacity, so I wouldn't rule it out. I think we'll see daily nonstop service to IST when TK join Star Alliance and we might see CPH go daily. After that, I have no idea how SQ might increase capacity to Europe beyond what has already been announced.

Is SIA restricted into Denmark? CPH is supposed to be at record load factors akin to the topical YVR route but capacity for as long as I can remember has been 3x weekly.

Yes, travel to CPH should be good with intake from Norway and Sweden. Unfortunately, it is thrice weekly that does not serve the region well. Lots of biz people from the Oil industry coming particularly from Norway.

I guess BRU in 2008/9 would be incredibly unlikely.... *harrumph*

I was thinking of booking just a SIN-AMS OW flight in Jan08 in hope that by Dec08/Jan09 BRU would be available. Maybe I'll just book the RT instead....

fimo, as a matter of interest would the one way flight be paid or award booking ?. The reason I ask is this is the sort of thing where BD's Diamond Club and their Cash+Miles awards really come into their own and cannot be beaten.

Now that you're based in Europe you will have no problem joining. Only 54000 miles to get to *A Gold and then only 38000 to keep it. Many on here are big fans of Diamond Club.

Paid - it's my annual home leave entitlement. I'm LH Senator until 2010 so I'm covered for a while, thankfully!

Not as far as I know. I believe a new EU-Singapore bilateral agreement took effect in 2005 to replace the previous separate agreements. I can't find a copy of it though.
