Gee, that's a big "damn" indeed.

We are booked to fly SIN-AKL on SQ285 on 29th Nov, and have reserved/chosen the 2 seater on row 75. Hopefully SQ285 will remain a Ver 1 A380 come end Nov...

Today operated by SKQ. Guess they have to find some way to accommodate the paxes. Some lucky one will get upgrade

It seem like the flights to n from Delhi/Mumbai are almost full in Y n PE (few seats left on certain days) for the next few weeks.

It's all about yield. Those all upper-J cabins take up way too much space and the new layout has virtually the same number of J seats plus getting the Suites onto the same deck. As we head into a peak tourist travel season, that's a whole lot more Y seats downstairs for SQ to sell on a plane they were already going to fly.

The original layout with the upper-Y cabin has always had better efficiency in floor space with the exception of being quite short on J seats on routes where demand is high. The new layout is the best of both worlds at the expense of Suites.

However for all the 13 older A380s to be refitted and reconfigured would take at least another 3 years and only by 2022 will all be completed and thats still quite sometime.

It looks like they are scheduling for only one aircraft so far. I guess when they have a clearer idea of the rollout date for the second one they will then update the schedules and Sydney SQ231/222 might end up keeping the new config after 1st August?

It would make sense to offer a common Suites product on that route.
