SKJ is back on service. Thus now all 6 version 1 A380 are in service but SKL have stopped flying since 18 sept. Should be for routine maintainance (or maybe refit as well?)
This whole refit programme sounds quite iffy... SKF is already 11 years old. How many years are they going to keep the A380s flying? Unless it’s for more than 20 years, I’m a little doubtful they’d invest 6-8mths of down time and millions of $ in refitting it at this stage. The older ver2 A380s will be...12years old by the time they complete a major retrofit.
I would think that the A380s will be used to its 20th year only, and that is provided the price of jet fuel do not go up towards US$90 and above. With a price tag of around $30-$35 million to refit the cabin and excluding some other maintenace, its costly to refit the A380s for just a few more years.
For version 1, I think SQ should just do a simply change of seats to the 2017 versions for Y/PE/J. For the suites, think they should remain on main deck but reconfigured to the new suites. Not sure about the space/size difference. But guess this will be much easier/faster than the current refit. If everything remain, version 1 will have around 435 seats? Unless trey can squeeze in some more J or Y seats.
Yes this could work - except that with the 12 suites even if changed to the new suites, believed that there's too many and have not been selling well except for one or two sectors. Hence the new A380s and the plannned retrofit calls for only 6 suites.

The version 1 can refit to only 6 suites. If they keep it on main deck should be easily in refit I think. The 2006 seats is too old already.
seems Qantas is able to reconfigure all its 12 A380s in 14 months with its first configured A380 in use today to Singapore. But for SQ it looks like it takes almost 6 to 8 months to reconfigure just one aircraft. https://mainlymiles.com/2019/10/01/q...ugh-singapore/
Interesting as just a few months ago SQ sign a MOU with MH to maintain MH A380s and not the other way around. Wonder what MH engineering can do for SQ 380? - maybe repainting or something not major.

Does the MOU include a provision for SQ to utilize MH's hangars to perform maintenance? A possibility if hangars in SIN are currently full.

Quite different in terms of scale - QF just reconfigured the upper deck (and resurfaced the lower deck essentially) and there was no maintenance involved. SQ on the other hand, ripped the entire cabins (lower and upper), rewire and reconfigure them, combining with a heavy check apparently.
Although I can't imagine what took it so long for SKT, QF's scale is quite a bit lower (and with Airbus team working on that, it might help a bit further).
