  • Singapore Airlines Announces Split Terminal Operations

SINGAPORE AIRLINES TO OPERATE FROM CHANGI AIRPORT TERMINALS 2 & 3

Singapore Airlines will be extending its operations at Changi Airport to the new Terminal 3, in addition to Terminal 2, from 9 January 2008.

Operating out of Terminal 3, the newest addition to the Changi hub, will also cater for the Airline’s long-term growth in the coming years.

"Singapore Airlines’ extended operations at the Changi hub will support our existing network, and also facilitate future growth and expansion," says Singapore Airlines’ Executive Senior Vice President (Operations & Services), Lt-Gen (Ret) Bey Soo Khiang.

"The brand new Terminal 3 gives us the opportunity to deliver a superior all-round experience to our customers in a sophisticated international hub terminal with modern facilities."

Customers departing from Changi Airport will check-in at Terminal 2 or 3 for their flights, depending on their destination.

Flights may arrive at either Terminal 2 or 3, and information will be available on the arrival terminal at least 2 hours prior to the estimated arrival time.

    --------

That's what you get for building a small, but very nice, new terminal.

    Is that phrase a comedy???

That's when a gate would be allocated. Of course, occasionally the assigned gate will change at the last minute, for example, when a departing aircraft at that gate is delayed. I expect that SQ would then try to allocate another gate at the same terminal whenever practicable, rather than at the other terminal.

Any news about the SKL in T3?

It's not surprising that the high-yield flights are moving to T3 and the low-yield flights are remaining in T2.

Wonder how they'll move around the 772ERs (SV*) which are used for short turnarounds in the day to SGN/HAN as well as to JNB/CPT when the majority of SV* operations seem to be at T3.

it will costs SIA several additional millions to operate from 2 terminals at changi - as it requires almost a doubling of ground and technical support staff; extra ground equipment and time "lost" in moving aircrafts from T2 to T3 or vice-versa. Believed its likely a directive from CAAS as if SQ moves all its ops to T3, then T2 will be left deserted after even less peak period morning n evening times. But by splitting it will costs millions and the worst thing is for its pax - who may need to go to separate terminals for their connecting flights with hand-luggages n children in tow; and esp for the older folks.

There will be no towing of aircraft between terminals. That's the reason why you will not find out what terminal your flight will be arriving into until 2 hours prior to arrival as the aircraft is meant to arrive at the terminal of its next departure. So you might fly in from SGN and find yourself arriving into T3, as the aircraft is rotated on to a long haul departure from T3, eg CHC or FCO.

I never like this arrangement, however, to move the whole SQ ops to T3 is not commercially viable for Changi airport. I just hope that the process of changing terminals can be as seamless as possible for passengers with children, disabilities, and also first timers.

Hmmm...geographically, shouldn't Russia be classified under "Asia" or "North Asia"?

I think, Russia is more closely associated to Europe rather than Asia. The "european" side of Russia is also the more denser and prominent part of Russia, compared to the eastern side. Sorry for being very off topic...

The distinction between Europe and Asia (two parts of the Eurasian continent separated by the Ural mountains) arose when Europe was called Christendom to distinguish the christian areas of Eurasia from the non-christian areas. It is no longer a useful distinction.

Hmm... flights to India are hardly low yield!

You're kidding, right? Flights to India are most definitely low yield.
