  • SQ EY Meals, how much can u actually eat?

    Hi folks
I fly SQ regularly, would really like to try business class but way over priced for the amount of time u spend in the plane, really not worth it. Anyhow I settle for EY class as thats best value for money, my question does anyone know how much food is assigned to each passenger? does it vary depending upon the sector? Id imagin the % loading would be more than the number of POB. They wouldnt cater for 100% of passengers and thats it. I have seen left over meals in the oven racks yet when I ask for a 2nd meal most of the time Im declined. Im not just talking about main meals, also how much can u drink and how many snacks can u eat? I just want value for money as flying isnt getting any cheaper.

    Thanks all.

The meals in the oven racks are most probably crew meals.

I do not have exact figures for meals but my experience suggests that seconds (sometimes thirds ) are possible if there are any leftovers. Drinks are pretty much free-flowing.

I was once subtly accused of drinking the Y cabin dry of Riesling, but I couldn't have drunk more than 2 bottles' worth on my own so I conclude that there were a fair few Riesling lovers on the same flight.

And of course - they would (or should) try to stop you from drinking if it's their reasonable belief that you're smashed.

Welcome to SQT. I've never tried asking for a second main meal so cannot answer your query.

You made the point about value for money. IMHO, my approach is 'eat until I am sated' as opposed to stuffing myself silly in order to maximise the amount of food per unit dollar spent.

If you want some filler, there are always snacks or cup noodles which you can go for if your request for a 2nd main meal is declined.

It's hard to say... the last time I was on SIN-LHR, the passenger next to me got an extra meal and was promptly given one...

But when I took KIX-SIN in August, I asked for a Japanese set with a Western main course and they said that can't be done, because they have catered just enough for the pax on board...

I think for longer flights, they will normally cater slightly more, as they anticipate passengers to get hungry, esp when the meal is served towards the end of the flight, but not for short-haul.

ex-Japan meals are more expensive and so SQ does not cater spares.

I reckon if you are afraid to get hungry on the plane, either eat before you fly, or BYO snacks...

..or if you are like another SQTalker, he ate his own food (bought and brought) when he saw the non premium food offering from a certain airline.

my friend bought a "double cheese burger meal" from hungry jack before he got on board SQ flight from Melbourne to Singapore, he had da meal on board. which was abit stinky and perhaps smell sucks for those who know how stinky Aus Beef + cheese smells like (eg, macdonald sausage & egg muffin meal from aus) .

                  hehe

Wish I could take you up on that offer, but not sure SQ F would have me back in the cabin after drinking too much chilled vodka and Krug on our SQ321 trip

Hi Mike just to shed some light.. generally in EY class, each passenger has 1 main course.. esp so when the flight is full. as such the ratio of meals uplifted/catered equals to the passenger load.. However some times, there are flights that depart with slightly excess main course!! these could be the ones you 'might' have seen.. Excess main course might also have come about because ,sometimes there are passenegers who decline to eat and these adds up to the excess meals.
On flights from Japan, EXACT meals are catered. unless there are passengers who decline their meal, you will not get extras at all..
Mike you must also bear in mind, the cabin crew (in all classes)only eat after passengers are served and they eat whatever is r. On the Japan run, i found out some of these crew even bring their own food as all they are given is the soba!
i was told CX crew have a separate meal cart with meals catered just for them. But SQ crew proportion of main course is incorperated with the total passenger load.... sometimes if the other classes have excess, these crew who work in EY, get a small' treat' from th upper classes.
After hearing about this from some of my SQ kakis, these days i always spare a thought for them.
I hope i have cleared your doubt, mike

                        You might wanna try http://www.airlinemeals.net/

All of the time, I find myself stuffed silly! Most of the time very tasty. There's something in the air that makes airline food seem so delish...

Hopefully we can have roast duck soon. Or watermelon martini.

Not to forget, welcome to SQTalk, PnG. Hope to cross path in the future aboard SQ.

How about roast goose on New Year's Day ? It's not far from FRA.

Well, can't do that. Will be too late to arrive. Well, I have done NY day tradition in Japan, i.e. having that long noodles. Several years ago went to Tokyo for NY Eve with a friend, and in the morning we walked around and in Shinjuku Isetan restaurant floor, there was a very long line to the noodle restaurant. The concierge at the hotel mentioned to us is one of the traditions as well as going to Meiji shrine (? hope this is correct since I had not been back in Japan for a very long time).
