  • Caviar (Shrinking Supply)

I am sure you all have read in other threads how some airlines have discontinued serving caviar, or limiting the service due to worldwide shortage.
For flyers who love caviar and would choose to fly SQ from North America, here are the lists of the routes still have full caviar service.

    SQ 11 LAX-NRT
    SQ 12 NRT-LAX
    SQ 15 SFO-ICN
    SQ 16 ICN-SFO
    SQ 25 JFK-FRA-SIN

No more full caviar service on SQ 1 and 2 as well as SQ 26. And no caviar for the 3 class service LAX-TPE-LAX.

Where did you find this out? I think SQ25 shouldn't get caviar and they should keep it on SQ 1 and 2 as it seems to be the premier N. American route. Before anyone goes on an SQ cost cutting rant I think we should all remember as UA MM pointed out that there is a severe worldwide shortage.
Such a way about you, My Singapore Girl. Wouldn't go away without you, My Singapore Girl.

It's not so much what's defined as a premier vs non-premier route, as it is related to departure time. All flights that serve "supper" don't have it anymore. Neither SQ322 nor 321 have it either.

Indeed. All the flights to Europe leaving late night, as the meals considered as supper, will not have any caviar. Too bad happened, but with the shortage it should be reasonable.

It makes sense to me. I don't think anyone will crave for caviar in the middle of the night. I certainly won't.

By the way, are we not talking about the farm produced caviar? Why do they let the shortage happen?

Without going into the nitty gritty details; it is simple matter of over-demand and supplies cannot cope.

This is compounded by the fact that a few of the species are already on Endangered lists.

FARMED or WILD , it is noteworthy to know that a female sturgeon spawns for the first time when it only reaches 25 years old. Depending on the harvesting method, many of this sturgeons do not live to reproduce roe again.

Wow...thanks for this scientific fact. I never know that a female sturgeon needs to live until 25 years old before it starts to produce roe. Now, I know why this thing is called black gold.

OK..surely some scientist / biologist can find a way to accelerate and to double the production of this roe. With all the DNA stuff going around, I guess it might actually happen one day.

Doesn't SQ2 have Dinner on the SIN-HKG part?

Yes, it's mostly Lunch/Dinner service for SIN-HKG vv but for shorter flights like these...the FULL Caviar service has been reduced for quite a period of time already.

Instead they (sometimes) serve the tiny portion of caviar with other cold cuts/salads as appetizers on these routes.

(example) : Malossol Caviar with marinated salmon and mesclun

Oh OK. So UA MM was referring to full caviar services, not just caviar.

I think I will skip on the caviar to protect the species.

My SQ2 flight 10 days ago did not have ANY caviar on offer, not even a reduced serving on the SIN-HKG flight.

Do you keep the menu by any chance?

                              Kangaroo Routes

Here are the list which flights have full caviar service:

                              LHR - SIN
                              SQ317
                              SQ319

                              SIN - LHR
                              SQ308
                              SQ320

                              SYD - SIN
                              SQ222
                              SQ232

                              SIN - SYD
                              SQ219
                              SQ221

                              MEL - SIN
                              SQ228
                              SQ238

                              SIN - MEL
                              SQ217
                              SQ227

Now my question is why no full caviar for AKL SQ285/286?
