I am doing a Y-class online check-in exactly 47 hours and 59 minutes before scheduled departure.

Can anyone tell me why approx. half the Y class seats, and ALL the good row 31 seats are already occupied???

Y class seats can be assigned beforehand if bought on Singaporeair.com

Row 31's blocked generally though cause of the bassinets.

Well they do pre assign when the flight goes to airport control at the 72 hour point (?)... I would have thought as a PPS you should be fair forward, did you have a specific request noted? I 'tend' to find this works.

This is why the removal of phone check in was annoying, you could sometimes get better seating that way.

Something like that - it's a process called 'editing.' All the emex and bulkheads are blocked out before the seat map opens for OLCI. And some other rows too but I can't remember which. If you've not SSRed and got urself confirmed in any of those seats before then, you'd not get them on OLCI. Best to turn up early at the airport and get the check in agent to release a seat you want.

The first 2 rows are usually blocked by the airport for pax requiring bassinets and some PPS requesting front row seats at airport check in.
You can always try asking the agent at the airport.
But yes, as PPS the seat assigned to you should be within the first 7-8 rows or so.

Just so I am clear on this, is the 48 hour point before departure time the earliest that one can do the OLCI process?

            Thanks.

              That's precisely my point, simong.

I am now checked-in with seat 31D , but only by physically going to Paragon for downtown check-in. At T-minus 46.5 hours, I received my BP with sequence# 003.

Point is, obviously the seats shown as occupied on the OLCI were still available. With phone check-in, anyone who called early (PPS or not) could presumably get a "good" exit row seat. And this is evidently still the case, should one make the effort to physically check-in at the airport or Paragon.

Also note that not only was row 31 unavailable online, so were around half the seats on the a/c, good and bad.

This doesn't make sense to me. If the principle when flying Y is "first come, first served", and also to encourage online check-in, why not give those who make the effort to check-in early online the full choice of best seats, especially when these are available anyway thru early physical check-in???

Btw, I was originally offered 32K online. Not bad, but one row makes a big diff in Y.

                Yes.

I'm guessing that they want to save the better seats in the house for PPS, who should've been pre-allocated a good seat during the 'editing' process, or have SSRed themselves into a desirable seat prior to OLCI anyway.

FWIW, I've only seen row31 available for OLCI once is perhaps 50 times. Rest of the times, they've always been unavailable.

I'm with you that tel check-in has taken away some good seats. The only way now is to SSR and hope no one has requested for the same seat or whoever bought online has already booked it.

Bearing in mind connecting flights though tend to open up all the following flights.

So if I am flying SYD-SIN-LHR and you are flying SIN-LHR I can access OLCI way before you etc.

So to be more specific, 48 hours before departure of the first flight on the itinerary.

Enjoy the dubious honour of having ** BP branded with 'SEQ 001.'

Why would that be dubious? Anyhow, I have only managed to go as far as 003.

I'm tempted to start a thread in the General folder polling SQTalkers on the topmost sequence number they have had, but I think I won't.

Because the notion of seq001 as honourable would be rather contentious to some.
                          I've got a few seq001s though.
