  • Book-The-Cook Service on SGN Flights

    Hi all,

I am not sure if this post belongs here or the All About Singapore Airlines folder, so please feel free to move it there as appropriate.

I notice that the meal service on SQ172 is a brunch rather than a lunch. In that case, will I be able to use the BTC service? SQ173, my return flight, certainly provides a dinner service, however, SGN is not a BTC station. Does that mean I will have no chance to enjoy BTC at all on this trip?

You can BTC even though it is a brunch. May I recommend the Lamb Chops?

But we can't BTC out of SGN since it is not a BTC station.

SuperJonJon, the lamb chops is a good choice. I love it too.

Sorry, didn't clarify that you could BTC brunch ex-Sin and not ex-SGN.

Haha. Then those passengers who use the BTC service will certainly get a better deal than those who go for the onboard fare, right? The BTC servings are main course type of meals! Correct me if I'm wrong!

The Lobster Thermidor is great the last time I tried it for SIN-HKG.

Thus far, I have tried Lobster Thermidor twice and Crab Ravioli once. Let me see what else I can have. How about Nasi Briyani and Nasi Lemak? I have always resisted ordering something that can commonly be found in a hawker centre, preferring to go for the more "premium" offerings. However, I have heard these local fare are good too. Should I give one of these a try?

I concur with you. I can always get a Briyani or Nasi Lemak anywhere in SG. But not for the Lobster Thermidor or Lamb Chops.

They serve Nasi Lemak on board MI as well during my trip to SUB and I actually asked for more servings at the end

You mean they serve Nasi Lemak as the standard onboard offerings right? If they were able to give you more servings, it means an FA had to sacrifice her own meal?

Anyhow, I have shortlisted the following two BTC options for my trip:
                  • Wild mushroom and chorizo risotto in natural jus with arugula
                  • Fish soufflé and spicy minced chicken served with pineapple rice and curried vegetables

I'm a fan of sausages, but I'm equally passionate about Asian fare. At least we don't normally find fish soufflé in a hawker centre! Then again, I remember that some flights now offer things like chilli crab? Oh my... I'm in a dilemma!

It's a matter of diminishing marginal utility. For those of us who aren't in Singapore or Malaysia that often, those dishes are a very nice way to cap our trip to Asia, and SQ catering ex-SIN executes them very well. I've never regretted the occasions when I've BTC'd either.

He he,..we obviously have a resident economist Suppose you could quantify said utility and generate a QALY (therefore in turn a cost per QALY), but not sure how useful that would be

As a true Singaporean would go "Wah, so cheam huh?"

                        *For non-Singaporeans, cheam = complex

It could be useful as one of the steps to estimating a hedonic utility function. You just have to resist using your calculations to infer an individual's (ok, my ) intensity of preferences among the BTC options, or to make interpersonal comparisons of utility for the same BTC option. After all, we wouldn't want someone to accuse you of forgetting what monotonic transformations of quasi-convex utility functions do to preference rankings, would we? (Wah, so cheam huh!)

You want to discuss SIA's addressable markets in other parts of the world? And see how it can leverage its competitive advantage over other airlines to penetrate new market segments in a bid to achieve greater global market share? Of course, this is provided that the people on the ground is able to align with management's strategic directions and that we have full visibility of the competitive landscape, with the deepest levels of granularity.

Nah, that's business gobbledegook. nickbot and I were gobbledegooking on the price-theoretic theory of consumption.

                              ...

BTW, have you decided what to BTC?
