  • Acronym Used In Forum.

    Dear all,

Am new to this forum but already find it useful to know more about SQ.

However, I am not sure what are the meaning of some acronym used. Is there any guide or website that I can take reference from?

    1) Destination code: E.g. PVG for Pudong?

    2) Aircraft code: 9V-SYG?

    3) How about aircraft type?

    Thanks!

    Try googling it?

You might find the Great Circle Mapper useful in identifying airport/city codes.
All opinions shared are my own, and are not necessarily those of my employer or any other organisation of which I'm affiliated to.

You gradually learn the common ones over time but as KeithMEL says, you can try the Great Circle Mapper or any of the other resources you find if you Google "IATA airport codes". Try this article which explains how all of these codes came about and explains why (for example) Vancouver is YVR:

It's like a licence plate for planes with the prefix identifying which country it is, e.g. 9V for Singapore:

What I normally do when I stumble upon some unfamiliar airport code (say xyz) is to do a Google search, using the following as the search string: "IATA xyz". Most of the time I'm led to some Wikipedia page.

As for aircraft types and registration codes, you will be able to find something on the Net as well. There's a very good and detailed article on Singapore Airlines and its fleet of aircraft on Wikipedia, which is updated on a regular basis.

Just out of curiosity I found that in some threads, I see "Y Class, C Class, F Class...."

What does the letters "Y," "C," and "F" mean?

                F: First Class
                C: Business Class
                Y: Economy Class

In reality, there are subclasses within each of these classes. The above are the full-fare, top-tier subclasses within their respective classes. Sometimes we use the other subclass codes to refer to the classes. For example, J is sometimes used as a reference to Business. F and Y, on the other hand, are almost exclusively used to mean First and Economy.

It really depends on the airline, e.g. on BA, JCDI is business and J is top full fare flexible and I is discounted non-refundable non-changeable etc.

Again, it depends on the airline, e.g. R class (for Rocket ? ) was what BA used for Concorde.

That's pretty much for most (all?) oneworld members. Plus U for biz award.

*A's full fare is C, and I for alliance-wide biz award buckets.

It also appears that both CRWSTAR and DONEx/DGLOBx seats book into D.

                        Cheers for that.
Do they have any plans for harmonising themselves with the rest of *A? I'd have thought it's meant to be the same alliance-wide.

They still keep that booking class? SQ supersonic service was discontinued in Nov 1980.
