  • Massages now available to SQ pax ex-SGN

    Forgot to mention this before.

It's been up and running about a month now and there is a note at the Raffles/PPS/*A Gold checkin desks offering the service at the Viet-Spa, which is opposite gates 4 & 5. It lists the 3 massages available two are 20 minutes on is 30. I can't remember the exact details. I did ask for a copy of the letter and they looked at me like I was a Martian..

You get an invitation to the Spa instead of the lounge. There is also a message in the window of the Spa about it. I may check it out in a few weeks as I'm sick of the sight of the SASCO lounge..

Cool! Same privilege of 1 guest?

I dislike the SASCO lounge as well, it is overly crowded and I can never find a seat.

      Head and shoulders ?
      Full body ?
      Clothes on or off ?
Do let us know once you try it!

I do enjoy a good massage and have tried them when available (e.g. Sheraton Saigon) and when I can be sure it's not somewhere which primarily offers other services, i.e. a resort or international hotel which gives me what I pay for and nothing more!

One of these days when I pass through SIN, I really must try out one of the massage places there (the Plaza Premium Lounge, the Rainforest Lounge and also the transit hotel I think ?).

There was a Foot Massage, Head and Shoulders and the final one which was listed as 30 minutes involvled 'Paraffin' if I recal correctly ?.

I was in a bit of a daze and rushed as usual at checkin yesterday. I was running late for SQ173 and realised at checkin at SGN that I had 'forgotten' to check out of the Sheraton !!.

I checked last night and you can also take a guest with you for a massage. You definitely have to choose between Spa or lounge access, you can't have both.

The new international terminal at SGN opens on 2 September (thankfully...) and there are five lounges in there apparently. They have not finalised which one they will be using yet so we'll see if the Spa access is available in there.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the SASCO Lounge? I thought SASCO is that MRO company?

Southern Airport Services Company (SASCO) Lounge is the contracted lounge in SGN, am not sure if they do MRO as well.

OK, I just found out that the SASCO I was referring to is ST Aviation Services Co, a member of Singapore Technologies Aerospace. They have a hangar here at Changi Airport. Sorry for the mistaken identity, but at least I learned something new today.

I believe in Hanoi, the lounge is runned by Northern Airport Services Co.

September 2? Will they use the old terminal for domestic flights then? And the SASCO lounge isn't that bad, from previous experiences, it hasn't been too busy.

Looking forward to the opening of the new terminal, looks quite nice from the outside, and definately looking forwards to a change in lounges - wonder what kind of facilities will be available in the new terminal.

Yes the current terminal will become domestic and all international flights will use the new terminal. September 2 is Vietnam independence day that's why they want to open it then.

I'm looking forward to it opening as well. Hopefully the occassional horrendous immigration queues will become a distant memory and having to wait on the main taxiway for aircraft to leave the main apron due to there being only one way in and out will also cease, as there is direct access into the gates at the new terminal. I agree it looks quite nice.

Immigration is the biggest pain, but somehow, I don't think that problem will be countered in the new terminal. Somehow I have my doubts.

Five lounges however, seems quite ambitious, but the more, the better.

Yes, I have to agree, I was at the counter for what seemed forever as the officer closely scrutinised every single aspect of my passport

Tough luck for me then. I fly into Ho Chi Minh on 29 August and fly out on 31 August. Well, you have to go through pain in order to appreciate good life.

The trick i found for clearing immigration quickly in SGN is to walk very briskly when leaving the plane. And always go to the left side of the immigration counters, they seemed to always be manned by more senior staff and processes quickly.

It also helps if you were seated in row 11.
