  • SQ 26 - meals

    Hi everyone,
hope this is in the correct section

What meals are served on SQ 26 from FRA to JFK. Since it starts at 8:30 in the morning I would expect Breakfast? Or is it Brunch?

  • #2
They serve you breakfast after take off and then another meal about an hour and a half to two hours from JFK.

I am not sure what class you are interested in but I am flying FRA-JFK in Raffles on Thursday so I'll put the menu up on the menu board when I get chance.

      SQ26 FRA-JFK
It is breakfast after taking off, and light meal prior to land.
Which class of service are you on?
There are the menu posted on the topic Menu Gallery, but I think someone has not updated the menu lists yet.

Took the flight in economy last yr. Yep, 2 full meals were served (breakfast and light meal). Actually the light meal on SQ is almost a full meal on itself.

Yes, its quite filling. I think SQ just doesn't want its passengers to feel hungry onboard so they give them heavy meals (despite the word light).

That's also why they offer snacks. How many times have you flown SQ26 yourself ?.

Sorry, forgot to mention that we are flying Biz Class. Looked through the menu page but couldn't find anything for SQ 26

I did SQ 26 two weeks ago. Not so sure whether I have the C menu. Will check my collection...

But looking at the BTC list:

Artichoke-tomato crusted loin of lamb in thyme sauce, French beans with bacon, and gratin potatoes

Gratinated prawns with mushrooms in brandy sauce, carrots, green beans, and dill potatoes

Pan-fried fillet of beef in three peppercorn sauce with garden vegetables and roasted potatoes

Roast chicken breast in rosemary sauce with vegetables and country potatoes

Salmon gratinated with feta and parmesan cheese in orange ginger sauce with vegetables and Mississippi rice

Chicken in Thai masaman curry with vegetables and steamed rice

Fish in Thai red curry with vegetables and steamed rice

Honey glazed duckling with vegetables and Chinese egg noodles
I do like the lamb as well as fish red curry.

I had the lamb in Raffles Class. It was quite tasty. And I didn't think it was very light-- more like a full-on meal service.

The issue to be aware of on the SQ 26 route is that if you BTC, your order is for the light meal before arriving in New York, not the breakfast after departure from FRA. If you originate in FRA, that's fine. But if you start in SIN, you'll get a breakfast before landing in FRA and another one after takeoff from FRA, which is kind of strange (it will be a more substantial one after depature from FRA). You can, as I did, ask for a "light meal" off the menu, which they will serve to you at breakfast with the other breakfast items, then have your BTC during the ordinary "light meal" service towards the end of the flight, treating it kind of like a dinner.

Oh, and the lamb in Raffles does not look anything like the lamb in First. But it is still a very good-sized entree and it's quite tasty. One of the better dishes I've had in Raffles, actually.

Is that advisable, to skip breakfast and have the light meal instead of breakfast and then BTC menu instead of light meal?

Thanks for your advice so far!

I don't think it's a matter of advisable or not. It really depends on the person and which time zone he/she is on.
In the example from MegatopLover, he arrived from SIN flight. Thus about 9am Frankfurt time, his body tells him to have something heavier than just breakfast meals.
But if you start from FRA, your boy clock might tell you that you only want breakfast. And prior to land in JFK, it's passing lunch time Europe time body clock. Thus heavier meals needed.

Again, if I were you, I will get a BTC for my light meal (call SQ reservation to book it at least 24 hours prior to your flight). When it's the day of travel, you can tell exactly after check-in, clearing security, staying at the lounge a bit, and boarding, how you feel. Look at the menu. And if you feel hungry, you can tell the FA, if it could be possible that you can have your BTC for your breakfast (and tell her/him that for light meal, you will have from the menu). Of course if it is a full flight, they might say they will check back. If you ask her/him early enough, the person responsible in the galley, can move your BTC from the light menu cart to the breakfast to get heat up properly.

Heehee. Fortunately or unfortunately, I don't have this problem. I eat everything that is served on board -- and I do take some food in the lounge too, if I'm eligible for entry. I'm a foodie, and I snack a lot. This probably explains my size.

You are not alone! When travelling alone, I would snack here and there in the lounge. And yes, I will have the meals served on board!
Of course the past few months were exceptions since I was doing the run. Too many flights near to each other. Thus, skipping many meals!

Yes, I was arriving from SIN and that's the reason I wanted the light meal right after takeoff from FRA. But not because of my body being on SIN time. It was because I had just had breakfast before landing in FRA and thought two breakfasts was rather silly. Besides, SQ light meals and lunches and, especially, BTC are much more filling and enjoyable than breakfast items, so that's what I felt like.

For someone originating in FRA, I wouldn't think there would be any reason to have anything other than breakfast after departure.
