Does anyone know how many they would buy?

Could depend on how easily the existing model can be modified. The more work it takes to design and build the modified jet, the more the manufacturer may want to negotiate that SQ must buy. The other variable is how many other potential buyers the manufacturer thinks they might find other than SQ.

If it's the A350, they might want a few because at present they have so many of them on order that are all the same size. One-size-fits-all doesn't usually work in commercial aviation with a diverse network like SQ, hence their present mix of 772s and 773s.
