Haha.... I presume the reference to bird was for 9V-SWB. She's 9.5 years old. The insurers will probably assess, and if it makes sense, I would say SQ would repair Whisky-Bravo, giving her new wings, an engine and probably a refitted cabin interior ✈️🇸🇬

One upshot to landing in SIN is that no foreign aviation regulator will be able to launch an investigation, say Malaysia. Though to your point I guess the NTSB can. Good for controlling the story I guess.

It is really interesting to see discussions on different boards:

        1. FlyerTalk: neutral commentary, some think pilots should have landed sooner. Other defend the pilots

        2. PPrune: Mostly condemning SQ pilots

        3. This board: How can Mother SQ ever be in the wrong

              Or

              4. The fact is, like every other aircraft incident nobody initially knows what should or shouldn't have happened yet so better to wait for the report issued by specialist investigators.

Let me add one more forum - Onemileatatime

Same sentiments - well it's just human behavior and what the internet has made us. There are 2 sides of the coin to this. While I don't agree with some people's views I do respect their freedom of speech as long as they respect mine. It's kinda of like a double edge sword. Peace be with all God bless all the passengers and crew they were safe

The airline industry is easily one of the most talked about by outsiders, with people who THINK they know, and comment as such. I've spent some time with Management on some projects, and I was blown away by how little I really knew.

The same goes for the industry i do come from. It's controversial and one that's talked about a lot, and there are preconceived notions galore. In THAT field, I will say I know what I'm talking about, and I will also say this: The public knows about 2/5ths of Foxtrot Alpha - but still incessantly bandies around silly notions simply because they make great pub conversations.

I suspect, the same will apply to the industry any one of you might come from. Public knows jack sh1t, but think they're experts. True?

                    • Completely true. I'm even surrounded by colleagues who think my specific role is much easier than it is and come up with insane contributions that often I'd just love to let them implement and then stand back and watch the chaos. What stops me is knowing I'd then be called on to fix said chaos.

No, it's a scheduling/timetable position. I do spend a lot of time though with my IT colleagues trading hilarious stories of how clueless our "senior" managers are!

                          • I can only say that as a passenger looking at that fire I'd be VERY inclined to evacuate.

I would take your opinion over most any day of the week.

                              • Interim statement

                                Quoted from avherald:

On Aug 1st 2016 Singapore's AAIB released an interim statement stating, that fuel was found in the right hand engine's oil system. The investigation determined that the fuel entered the oil system through a crack in a tube of the engine's fuel-oil-heat-exchanger. The engine manufacturer had released a service bulletin (SB) in December 2014 requiring removal of certain fuel-oil-heat-exchangers from the engines, inspect for cracks in the fuel tubes and do needed repairs and improvements at the next engine shop visit of the engine. 9V-SWB's engine had been in the engine shop just prior to the SB being released. As an immediate safety action the AAIB recommends to accelerate the implementation of the service bulletin.
