  • SIA New Entertainment System Link with Tablet

I've recently had the pleasure to fly on SIA A350. Generally great experience.

However I do wish to note on one potential issue with regards to the new feature where mobile device can link to the entertainment system, seems like with all the new A350 discussion nobody has comment on device link yet.

I tested this out on my way back from KUL to SIN on SQ119 on the new A350

To start off I think this is an awesome innovation and a great companion tool and I like it a lot as it provides us with multi task and convenience to a whole new level.

However I also realized it can also be used as a great tool to annoy other passengers.

To pair a device the mobile device initiates a call to the seat then the seat system will display out pin to enter into the mobile device. This is good and all as it secures the seat entertainment system to ensure no unauthorized access.

However, if I wanted to annoy someone I simply use my mobile device and attempt link to the targets' seat - this will pop a request screen on to the target's screen and while that person can simply click cancel, I can do this many many times to annoy him and disturb his entertainment and best of all it will be hard to find out who it is since its wireless. (unless all FA can request all passengers to declare their mobile device to show this machine IDs and legally not sure if that's possible)

Really think SIA might want to reconsider on how to link devices to the seat entertainment without this loop hole.

It's a really good feature and I want it but I also don't want to be disturbed half way thru my movie either. So do hope there is a good solution here.

Best email them about it, but in truth I think this would wear thin as entertainment after about the 2nd go.

I have contacted them but I agree with you

My reason for this post is to see what fellow sq flyers think and would you think this is a hinders car or issue or am I being over zealous?

Should be quite easily fixed (by SQ not us!). On the IFE before you can connect a device you turn on a discovery mode that allows a connection, a little bit like Bluetooth.

yup but the concern here is that you can take any mobile device and attempt to connect to any seat's IFE. So if a person wanted to annoy you halfway thru while you are watching the movie all he/she had to do is connect to the plane's wifi and click on the link to seat on the SIA APP and select your seat and while you can reject the request he can keep sending the request to annoy you and disturb your movie.

Agreed this has to be resolved at the Owner (SIA or even Pansonic) level. One easy solution is to let the seat owner initialize first then let the device proceed.

Lets see how SIA is going to address this just wanted everyone's 5 cents on this

Like I said in my initial post this feature is awesome and good - just needs some fine tuning and being one of the first to implement means being the first to address issues too, kudos to SIA for taking the leap

I get what you mean, the solution I posted about will resolve this. It will make it so only new connections can be initiated if its turned on first. Like the way the seat to seat phones work.
