      • Now that SQ has 3 A350's now that solves the AMS problem. They should have waited til June to commence operations and have at least 3 A350 before sending it longhaul. Now that JNB and Dusseldorf are A350 routes, eventually they can go back to doing 77W refits if necessary.

        • HKG is also the 4th destination for SQ A350, with SQ 890/891 will be operating with Airbus A350-900 aircraft on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 28th of June.

Those four days fit the gaps between JNB flights perfectly.

Singapore Airlines Updates June 2016 A350 Regional Service

Singapore Airlines in last week’s schedule update made additional changes to planned Airbus A350-900XWB operations on regional route, not covered on Airlineroute. The A350 aircraft will be operating service once again on Singapore – Hong Kong and Singapore – Kuala Lumpur route from 07JUN16 (previously reported as 28JUN16).

                Planned schedule as follow.

                Singapore – Hong Kong 1 daily (4 weekly, Day x146 from 28JUN16)
                SQ890 SIN0735 – 1120HKG 359 D
                SQ891 HKG1230 – 1620SIN 359 D

                Singapore – Kuala Lumpur 1 daily (4 weekly, Day x146 from 28JUN16)
                SQ118 SIN1845 – 1945KUL 359 D
                SQ119 KUL2040 – 2145SIN 359 D

Therefore before they launch JNB they should have additional A350-900 capacity to operate HKG and KUL respectively.

I just wondering whether these regional services are going to be short lived with once DUS comes in they will be switch back to B772 instead due to high occupancy of A350-900 aircraft.

It's a little extreme but they can actually cover JNB, HKG & KUL all with one plane.

It arrives at 0610 from JNB, heads to HKG at 0735, returning at 1620. It then turns around again at 1845 for KUL to return at 2145, leaving it plenty of time to fly back to JNB at 0210.

The x146 is because they are the three days it will be flying to/from JNB and thus be unavailable. On Tuesday nights it would remain in SIN overnight instead, until the morning flight for HKG at 0735.

They have ample opportunities to rotate the craft at SIN so that one particular plane doesn't shoulder so much of the load, such as switching the AMS arrival through to HKG, for example.

If anything goes wrong, the regional routes can have an old purple-cabin 772 fill in!

                  • F to and from MAN has now gone from the booking engine three times a week starting from 4 January. SQ328 ex SIN on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday and SQ327 ex-MAN on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. The flight still show as one stop and 77W at the moment so I hope we can just put this down to them just prioritising people not booking F tickets for those dates first.

If we lose F but still stop in MUC a number of people have been warned in advance how that will go down with a few of us.

What is the current plan vis a vis MAN and MUC? My understanding was that an unspecified change could be expected, but not before October 2017?

                      • The A350 hasn't had a good year when it comes to supplier delays. At their annual Innovation Days event they were asked about it. Apparently their CEO said: "You expect to have toilets with doors that close."

So I would take any announcements about A350 routes with some skepticism right now, given that apparently they're still having issues.

                              • So just when we think we know where the A350s might be heading...

Courtesy of feb01mel in another thread, the new direct SFO flights are daily as follows:

                                SQ 32 SIN/SFO 0830/0915
                                SQ 31 SFO/SIN 1045/1840 +1

Quite ingenious timings given the new fleet's other commitments, such as AMS:

                                SQ 324 SIN/AMS 2355/0715 +1
                                SQ 323 AMS/SIN 1115/0555 +1

Thus, putting the two operations together would allow 3 A359 craft to theoretically cover the entire daily AMS and SFO operations, rather than be used on little hops to KUL or CGK in the 18 hour gap between AMS flights, which isn't what these long-hauls were intended for.

All other actual/rumoured Euro destinations follow pretty much the same timings as AMS, meaning they are not locked into only one corresponding arrival to cover the SFO route, which clearly will become the top priority as no other plane type in the fleet can be substituted.

By the commencement of SFO operations, the following commitments will be in place, assuming none are reversed or altered in the wake of the SFO announcement:

                                AMS/SFO dailys = 3 planes
                                DUS 3x weekly = 1 plane
                                JNB 3x weekly = 1 plane
HKG/CGK/KUL all fit into gaps between JNB & DUS flights and are very loose commitments, if at all.

Provided SMF has arrived by mid-October, then the above should be possible, with potential for the sixth A359 to allow JNB to go daily, although this would become very tight. I see JNB as being the first to be sacrificed if anything should go wrong, especially as it is the last flight out for the evening.

The other priority destination for A359s will now become BCN given the imminent withdrawal from GRU. F bookings have already been terminated for BCN flights, but we need clearer information about the timing of the GRU withdrawal before making further guesses. Terminating the GRU leg by itself would see existing BCN direct flights cause the parking of a plane on the tarmac in Spain for 24 hours. That may be the next big announcement, as the entire MXP/BCN operation will need to be considered jointly.

Now I see why CPH has fallen off the radar for the time being.
