A350 Deliveries and Routes

9V-SGG has landed at Changi bringing the SQ A350-900 fleet to 29. This completes the delivery of all 7 URLs.

So 9V-SGG has been delivered on December 15th, but it hasn't started any revenue service in 3 weeks. Interesting. I thought most of the time these planes start revenue service at the most 2 weeks if not within 1 week.

The 7th ULR plane is a spare but it may not necessarily be 9V-SGG. I'm sure 9V-SGG will be rostered to fly in regular rotation to EWR/LAX/SFO while another aircraft serves as the spare back in SIN; it just has not happened yet. Unless you are an airline like Air India which apparently cannibalized a relatively-new aircraft for spares, you would not park an expensive asset with minimal utilization while flight hours and cycles are accumulated on the rest of the fleet, especially if there are only 7 in the total fleet.

SQ32/1 does very well filling its Y cabin, predominantly with passengers connecting to a variety of destinations in India. They'd lose that market if they moved to the ULR layout.

It could be any of 21 planes: SMA-U. If you want to find out the exact registration, icargo.net often displays it a few hours before departure, but it's only indicative and can often change.

icargo shows no Corr. Arrival Flight so SQ228 is correct. That route will be served by one of the long haul A350s.

It could be purely coincidental, but nice that a “special aircraft” gets to operate the inaugural A359 service to CHC tonight, given that SMF is the 10000th Airbus aircraft delivered to an airline customer, that is if SMF is indeed going to operate the flight. Could be another reason for CHC based spotters to head out to CHC tomorrow to capture the historic moment...

SMF also flew its first inaugural when SQ began its first morning SFO nonstop service on SQ32/31 back in October 2016.

Singapore Airlines increases Milan flights from July 2019

Permanent increase to Milan service

Singapore Airlines from July 2019 is expanding Singapore – Milan Malpensa service, with the addition of 7th weekly flight, operating on Mondays from Singapore. The new flight commences on 01JUL19, with A350-900XWB.

SQ356 SIN2330 – 0610+1MXP 359 x236

SQ355 MXP1300 – 0700+1SIN 359 x347
SQ377 MXP1300 – 0700+1SIN 359 347

The daily service will be maintained in winter 2019/20 season, on/after 27OCT19.

SQ378/7 are the flights that extend to BCN. Unusual though that they now have new flight numbers for the other days. If I remember right, MXP terminators used to always be SQ 368/7 but now seem to use SQ356/5. JNB-CPT use the same flight numbers whether or not it extends to CPT, but I guess the difference with MXP-BCN is that there are also direct BCN flights.

Regarding the swap to SQ356/5, it could be due to superstitious reasons. SQ368 (9V-SWB) was the flight that had to turn back and had the passengers evacuate while the wing was on fire. Similar to how SQ retired SQ006 after the crash in Taipei.
