I'm flying AKL-SIN today but there is a bit of confusion as to what bird is operating it as the seat bookings for it have row 17 as Upper Deck exit row a la SQ, whereas outbound I was in 9A which is Upper Deck exit row on the MH bird.

According to the (execeptional) crew on SQ286 the MH bird 'is in for monthly maintenance for a couple of days'.

FWIW 300 SQ crew have had special training to work on the MH bird. Apparently 'it is a bit older' than they are used to so they are making sure everyone who works on it knows what to expect.

When will 9V-SPR be back in service and will it be in new livery? Btw, is 9V-SPS in service already?

hmmm....not true that the MH birds are older as they r still under 10 yrs old - in fact its younger than SQ's oldest 744s still operating which is already in its 13th year.

MPE will always have a place in my heart. On 16 May 99 MH002 9M-MPE KUL LHR, I watched the landing from jumpseat in LHR.

                      • I have a booking next year on SQ285 and in My Bookings there is a little notice next to it saying 'Alert for SQ285', and the following message when you click on it:

                        Flight Number: SQ 285
                        Alert for SQ285

Notice for passengers booking on SQ285/SQ286: We are operating these two flights with a leased Boeing 747-400 aircraft. We would like to inform you ahead of time that while the cabins are comparable to what we offer onboard our own aircraft, there are some cabin differences. The seats in First and Business Class are not the same as the Skysuites and Spacebeds in our own Boeing 747 aircraft.

                        • Just out of curiosity is this aircraft still on a 10-month lease? That would mean that it would be returned some time around late-April '08 or has the lease been extended?

                          Thanks.

It would appear that the end is nigh for the leased 74M:

Hmm...so the lease ends on that date and it gets returned? Or any possibilities of it being thrown on another route instead?
