hmmmm wonder why "Singapore_Air" complained about "The MH configuration is stupid and is less densely configured than our own ones". In fact the pax esp the EY will like these 2 ex-MH 744s as the seat pitch for EY is 34" compared to our own SQ 744s at 32". And its F and J classes are equipped only recently with very new seats which are better than our 744s too.

Can't speak for F - but that's totally not the case in J. The Spacebeds are way nicer IMHO.

Well... The MH's J is actually not bad, it feels brighter and newer. As much as I love spacebed, my vote has to go for MH. I never take the first class, but from my quick glance, MH's first seat lack the "luxury" feeling that SQ has...

The MH J seat is essentially identical to TG's and JL's - from the same manufacturer. It has a much steeper incline than the Spacebed when flat, which exacerbates the sliding effect.

I disagree with that. I prefer the SpaceBed and Skysuite, although in fairness I have only tried MH's new F once.

I agree Y is better on MH than SQ due to additional legroom.

I disagree with 1/3 of your statement. , for me, MH NSD F over Skysuite, but Spacebed over NSD J.

              Y as you describe it.

Hmm let's hope I get SQ227 in August on the ex-MH aircraft. I normally avoid 744s in Y because of the cramped cabin but unfortunately schedules are a concern this time. Then again from what I've read so far these aircraft are going to be serving AKL exclusively.

In the interest of brand/corporate image and product integrity, does anyone here seriously think that SQ would keep everything on the MH aircrafts intact? Leasing an aircraft does not mean that they have to accept the aircraft as it is. I believe modifications will be made by SQ, especially getting rid of the prayer room and piling in more seats, and ensuring that no MH logos are visible throughout the cabin.

I'm with you 100% on that bit. SQ is too good to overlook that aspect of branding. "Sloppy" is a term I wouldn't tend to associate with SQ.

What's the original reason for MH to "dump" the newly refurbished birds? It seems a bit off that they did all the enhancements only to sell them to the leasing company ?

Not sure if this is the complete story, but MH has been losing money and is in the midst of a business restructuring process. That includes doing away with unprofitable routes and hence redundant aircraft. Oh, have they done anything to those expensive paintings?

This is about the size of it. There is far too much politcal interferenece in the way MH is run, hence they still do have a few routes that are losing quite a lot of money but are still going for 'prestige' reasons; KUL-ARN-EWR and that bizarre flight to EZE via South Africa.

They have sold a building they own in central KL but I don't know if they still have those paintings....

Yeah, I know they had that Buenos Aires route eons ago. All along I had been wondering why MH would have a route to South America when SQ didn't. Now I know better. Now I wonder when SQ would start its first South America route. That would make that region so much more accessible from this red dot -- provided there's a business case for it!

The newly registered MH744 (9V-SPR) has started flying on the SIN-AKL route. Also, the seat plan for the MH744 has also been uploaded onto SQ's website. So confirmed no change of seats, aka MH new F/J/Y seats.

Taking this a little OT: Speaking of that flight, I just found a really cheap fare to fly MEL-EZE on MH! A$1600ish. But I'm not sure if I'm up for that whole shebang in Y - MEL-KUL-South Africa-EZE...
